Intestinal invaginations in adults are rare phenomenon . The most critical etiological causes are malignancies. The most common symptoms are abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, inability to pass flatus and defecation, and distention in the abdomen due to intestinal obstruction. On physical examination, abdominal distention, decreased bowel sounds and sometimes a mass may be palpable on deep palpation. In direct radiography, air-liquid levels can be seen. A mass can be detected in the invagination area on ultrasonography. Definitive diagnosis is usually made by computerized tomography. Treatment of intestinal invaginations in adults is usually surgery. It can be done by laparoscopic or open surgery. As a result, we think that when a definitive diagnosis is made in adults, intestinal invagination should be treated surgically under oncological principles since the etiological factor is mostly malignancy.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) may affect the epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, clinical course and prognosis of differentiated thyroid cancers (DTC).In this study, our aim is to increase awareness in these cases by revealing the different aspects of DTCs found with HT compared to only DTCs. For this purpose, current studies with HT+DTC cases were reviewed, compared, evaluated, and their differences from DTC cases were revealed. It was determined that HT+DTC cases showed different epidemiological features compared to only DTC cases. Ultrasonography is still the most effective noninvasive diagnostic method in HT+DTC cases. Many studies have shown that the presence of HT positively affects the clinical course and prognosis of DTC. HT+DTCs shows different epidemiological features from DTCs and HT significantly affects the pathogenesis, diagnosis, clinical course and prognosis of DTCs.
Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of dynamic contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) in the diagnosis of breast cancer (BC) and to compare it with ultrasonography (USG). Materials and Methods: In our study, 78 patients who underwent preoperative DCE-MRI and USG in our diagnosis center in TRNC between 2009 and 2022 and were diagnosed with BC histopathologically were investigated retrospectively.Findings obtained according to the BI-RADS classification in both methods, detection of BC, detection of tumor foci (TF) in multiple tumors (multicentric and multifocal tumors) (MT), correct diagnosis rates(CDR)s in invasive lobular cancers (ILC) and invasive ductal cancers (IDC) were compared and the results were evaluated statistically. Results: The mean age of the ILC and MT cases was found to be significantly lower than the IDC and unifocal tumor(UF) cases (p
Although the incidence of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is high, mortality is quite low. In low and intermediate risk DTCs, reoperations due to inadequate treatment can increase morbidity, mortality, and costs in patients. In our study, current articles published on this subject were reviewed and evaluated. According to our results, morbidity, mortality and costs increase due to inadequate treatment in DTCs. Therefore, even in low and intermediate risk DTC cases, adequate surgeries such as total or near total thyroidectomy should be performed by high volume endocrine surgeons and moderate TSH suppression should be applied in all cases.
Background: During the Covid-19 pandemic, many people have not been vaccinated. One of the most important reasons for this is the people who are hesitant about the vaccine. If the factors affecting vaccination are revealed and awareness-raising activities are carried out, deaths due to the Covid-19 pandemic can be reduced by ensuring that more people are vaccinated. Aim: Our aim is to reveal the factors affecting the Covid-19 vaccine hesitancy in university students. Material and Methods: Our study was carried out on 1005 students who participated in the study at the Girne American University of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The sociodemographic characteristics of the students were determined, questions were asked about the factors affecting the vaccination by face-to-face survey method, and the results were evaluated statistically. Results: 451 people out of 1005 students had hesitations about getting the Covid-19 vaccines, and 554 students were vaccinated without hesitation. The most important reasons for the hesitations of the students; fear of needles, belief that the vaccine is ineffective, fear of the side effects of the vaccine, and the thought that they do not need to be vaccinated because other people are vaccinated have been found to be effective. Conclusion: In order to increase vaccination rates among university students, vaccines should be made with needle-free methods, and studies to raise awareness about the effectiveness and side effects of Covid-19 vaccines should be urgently planned and implemented by authorized institutions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
