Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the improvement of hearing after stapedial surgery, to record the problems during surgery and to assess the complications of the same.

Objective: To study the clinical, radiological along with the management outcome of Eagle's syndrome. Study design: Prospective. Setting: The data of each patient included age, sex, presenting symptoms and signs, radiological investigations, operative notes and state at follow up.Results: Out of twenty patients, twelve (60%) were female and eight (40%) were male. Maximum nine patients (45%) belonged to the fourth decade. The mean age of presentation was 42.5 years. Maximum patients (100%) presented with pain and foreign body sensation throat. In all cases, a sharp prick was felt and pain was increased on palpation of the upper part of tonsillar fossa. In fourteen cases (70%) elongated styloid process was bilateral and in six cases (30%) it was unilateral. X-ray Towne's view, lateral view of skull base & neck and CT scan were excellent diagnostic tools as well as to measure the length of styloid process. In all cases partial styloidectomy was done via intra-oral approach. Eighteen patients (90%) were symptom free in three months follow up. Two patients (10%) had pain in throat and other symptoms even after three months follow up and were treated with oral carbamazepine.Conclusion: Eagle's syndrome associated with elongated styloid process is a rare clinical entity. The diagnosis can easily be made with clinical examination and radiological findings. Awareness of this syndrome is important to all ENT practitioners and related specialty involved in diagnosis and treatment of Head and Neck pain.

Background: Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), effective control of bleeding is essential to maintain a clear operative field and to minimize complications. Intraoperative bleeding is one of the major problems in endoscopic surgery of sinuses. Controlled hypotension is a technique used to limit intraoperative blood loss to provide the best possible field for surgery. Objective: The objective of study was role of Hypotensive Anaesthesia in Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and designed to compare intraoperative hemorrhage and the visibility of the operative field during normotension and hypotension anesthesia. Methods: Prospective randomized study includes a total of 60 ASA I-II patients who underwent elective FESS surgery. Patients randomly assigned in two groups the hypotension group (Group A) and the normotension group (Group B). Intraoperative mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR) were recorded. Results : This study shows the mean ages of the patients of group A group B were 33.36±7.61 and 32.46±7.73 years respectively. No statistically significant difference was observed among groups at 0.05 level in term of age. The mean heart rate pre-anaesthesia and preoperative among the patients of different groups in different follows up period. Significance differences were observed among groups in term of heart rate at 5 minute, 15 minute, 30 minute, 45 minute and 60 minute. The mean arterial mean blood pressure before pre-anaesthesia and preoperative estimation among the patients of different groups in different follows up period. Significance differences were observed among groups at 5 minute, 15 minute, 30 minute, 45 minute and 60 minute. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that Controlled hypotension can be achieved equally and effectively by nitroglycerin and labetalol reduced significantly intraoperative hemorrhage and produce hypotensive anesthesia. Background: Thyroglossal cyst is a congenital malformation that occurs due to incomplete closure of the thyroglossal duct. Apart from quiescent embryological remnant, it presents clinically as a midline cystic swelling that moves with tongue protrusion; present at any age, often requires surgical excision. Objective: To evaluate the clinical features and treatment outcomes of patients with a thyroglossal duct cyst. Material and methods: This observational study was carried out in the Department of Surgery, Dept. of Otolaryngology, Ibn Sina Medical College, Dhaka, A total 40 cases of both sexes with the age 6-67 years, during the period of 2013 to 2018 (5 years) Results: A total 40 cases of thyroglossal cyst with mean age of 24.37 years were included in study. Of the total 40 cases, 20 (50%) patients were male and 20(50%) were female. Most common clinical presentation was painless midline cystic swelling was the main complaint in 30 patients (75%), followed by dysphagia 5 (12.5%), Sore throat 3 (7.5%) and globus 2 (5%) in descending order. Most common location of cyst was in infrahyoid region in 26 patients (65%), suprahyoid in 14 patients (35%). Conclusion: The most common presentation of thyroglossal cyst is a midline cystic swelling that moves with tongue protrusion. The standard surgical approach to thyroglossal cyst is Sistrunk’s operation with low recurrence rate. Malignancy within thyroglossal cyst is very rare but should be rule out in all cases.
