Términos de relacionamentos costumam ser complicados e trazer consigo sofrimento psíquico, com isso, é natural que a mente desenvolva alguns mecanismos de enfrentamento para passar por esse período de maneira menos dolorosa. Diante dessa situação, este artigo teve como ponto principal a ser pesquisado as estratégias plausíveis para que seja possível enfrentar o luto após o encerramento de um relacionamento amoroso, sendo este tema bastante discutido na contemporaneidade principalmente entre os jovens, com isso o objetivo dessa pesquisa foi estudar a respeito das fases do luto afim de contextualizar quais são os processos que evolvem tal estado, e também como enfrentar tal momento, além de fatores sociais, culturais e psicológicos que podem influenciar no processo do luto, utilizando-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica de abordagem qualitativa. Além disso, dentre as plataformas utilizadas para escolha do material a ser analisado estão o google acadêmico, scielo, pepsic e BVS. Os resultados apontaram que principalmente mulheres são mais propensas a estagnar em uma das fases do luto desenvolvendo síndromes e sofrendo por mais tempo que homens dado o contexto cultural e social no qual estão inseridas, mas em compensação homens podem experimentar o sentimento de vazio e sofrimento psíquico com maior intensidade já que se utilizam de estratégias comportamentais como por exemplo emendar relacionamentos que não o satisfaçam afim de direcionar os sentimentos para relações menos duradouras baseadas em sexo evitando apego. É importante ressaltar a importância que a psicologia tem em análises a respeito desse tema.
