The aims of this research were to find out (1) the extent to which Think-Pair-Share strategy improves speaking ability of the fourth semester students of Cokroaminoto Palopo University; (2) the students’ perceptions on the application of Think-Pair-Share strategy in speaking activities. This research was carried out in the fourth semester students of English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The method used was quasi-experimental research with pre-test, ten meetings of treatment, and post-test. The sample was selected through purposive sampling technique. The data were collected through speaking test, questionnaire, and recorder instruments, and were analyzed with nonparametric test and frequency test. The result of Mann-Whitney U test and the students’ score on post-test was p < 0.05. It means that, there is a significant difference between the students taught with Think-Pair-Share strategy and without Think-Pair-Share strategy. The mean score of experimental group on pretest was 2.16, and increased to be 4.02 on posttest. The analysis of questionnaire indicated that the students’ perceptions on the application of Think-Pair-Share strategy were very positive. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of Think-Pair-Share strategy could significantly improve the students’ speaking ability.
This research focuses on the implementation of reading aloud in developing students’ speaking skill. It aims to find out whether the implementation of reading aloud develops the students’ speaking skill. This research used correlation research design in which questionnaire and speaking test are the instruments of this research. The population of this research is the first semester students of English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The sample of this research is selected through purposive sampling technique. One class represented as the sample that is class B. The result of this research shows that reading aloud can be effective way in teaching speaking class since there is a significant relationship between reading aloud and the students’ speaking skill. It is determined by p value of 0,027 which is below 0,05. Thus, the implementation of reading aloud significantly contributed to develop students’ speaking skill.
This research aims to find out the students’ vocabulary understanding of American English and British English. The population of this research is the seventh semester students of Universitas Cokroaminoto Palopo which consists of three parallel classes. The total population is 120 students in academic year 2018/2019. Cluster random sampling technique is used to determine the sample. This research took one class as sample. The result of this research shows that the students’ vocabulary understanding of American and British English is fair. It can be seen by the result of mean score that is 52.67 which is classified into fair.
This research aims to find out the appropriate way in teaching simple past tense by applying Suggestopedia method and also to find out the students’ participation during the teaching simple past tense by applying Suggestopedia method to the second semester students of English Department of Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The subject of this research is 25 students of the second semester students of English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Cokroaminoto Palopo University class B. The result of this research shows that teaching structure simple past tense by applying Suggestopedia method was one of the effective method that was able to enhance the students’ understanding well and easily. It was supported by the achievement of the ideal score in the second cycle. In this case, the mean score in the first cycle was only 66.28 while in the second cycle the mean score was very good 86.6. That mean, the mean score in the second cycle was higher than the mean score in the first cycle. It means that, the students had a good understanding in learning structure simple past tense by applying Suggestopedia method. Meanwhile, the result of observation, the student’s participation in the second cycle was more active 85% than in the first cycle 50%. That mean, the students had a good participation in learning structure simple past tense by applying Suggestopedia method. So, it could be concluded that the Application of Suggestopedia Method in Teaching Simple Past Tense effective in enhancing student’s understanding and also could overcome students’ psychological barriers of the second semester students of Cokroaminoto Palopo University. Thus, it could be clearly concluded that Suggestopedia method is able to enhance students’ understanding in learning structure simple past tense well and easily as fast and intensive as possible.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) terhadap kemampuan membaca karangan narasi siswa kelas V UPT SDN 010 Rante Bone Kabupaten Luwu Utara. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Pre-Eksperimental Design dengan jenis one group pretest posttest design. Dalam desain ini, sebelum perlakuan terlebih dahulu sampel diberi pretest (tes awal) dan di akhir pembelajaran sampel diberi posstest (tes akhir). Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa Kelas V UPT SD Negeri 010 Rante Bone Kabupaten Luwu Utara sebanyak 16 siswa. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas V UPT SD Negeri 010 Rante Bone Kabupaten Luwu Utara yang berjumlah 16 siswa. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan total sampling. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan oleh peneliti untuk mengumpulkan data yaitu berupa pretest posttest dan lembar keterlaksanaan pembelajaran. Analisis datanya menggunakan analisis statistika deskriptif dan analisis statistika inferensial berbantuan program siap pakai yaitu statistic product and service solution (SPSS). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) terhadap kemampuan membaca karangan narasi siswa kelas V UPT SDN 010 Rante Bone Kabupaten Luwu Utara. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat dari kemampuan membaca karangan narasi siswa kelas V UPT SDN 010 Rante Bone Kabupaten Luwu Utara sebelum penerapan model pembelajaran CIRC rata-rata sebesar 53,13 dan berada pada kategori kurang baik. Kemampuan membaca karangan narasi siswa kelas V UPT SDN 010 Rante Bone Kabupaten Luwu Utara sesudah penerapan model pembelajaran CIRC rata-rata sebesar 80,63 dan berada pada kategori baik. Hasil uji Paired Sample T-test diperoleh nilai p sebesar 0,000 < α (0,05).
