Overall they were more likely to be taking complementary therapies than prescribed medications. One-third suggested that their GP was unsympathetic. 40 women admitted that working days were lost due to PMS and telephone volunteers reported that desperation was manifest during the call. Conclusions. The helpline is an important part of the support offered by NAPS for PMS sufferers and their partners. As these calls probably represent a fraction of desperate women, it is important to raise awareness of this condition and provide different forums for women to both receive support and information.
