Objective: To determine the frequency of H. pylori in patients with functionaldyspepsia. Patients and methods: This six months multidisciplinary study was conducted attertiary care teaching hospital as well as at private hospital Hyderabad from February 2012 to July2012. All patients presented with history of dyspepsia were admitted and evaluated for functionaldyspepsia by performing endoscopy. After confirmation of functional dyspepsia the subjectswere further evaluated for H. pylori infection by taking the biopsy specimen, label it and sent tolaboratory for histopathological examination. The data was entered, saved and analyzed in SPSSversion 11.00. Results: During six month study period, total 100 patients with functionaldyspepsia were recruited. Majority of patients were from low socioeconomic class (78%), havehistory of spicy food intake (68%) and epigastric pain (94%). The associated symptoms observedwere nausea and vomiting (87%), anorexia (88%), early satiety (84%) and regurgitation (84%).The mean ±SD for age of patients with functional dyspepsia was 37.95±10.85. The mean age±SD of H. pylori identified patients was 35.81±7.72. Majority of the subjects was 30-40 years ofage and the male population predominant 64% (p-value 0.02, statistically significant). The H.pylori was identified in 62% of patients, of which 35 (56.5%) were males and 27(43.5%) werefemales (p-value 0.04, statistically significant) respectively.
To determine the frequency of vitamin B12 deficiency in patients with hypothyroidism. Study Design: Cross sectional descriptive study. Period: 12-05-2016 to 11-11-2016. Setting: Liaquat University Hospital Jamshoro / Hyderabad. Patients and Methods: All the patients of known hypothyroid patients for ≥01month duration, 20-50 years of age, either gender were explored for serum vitamin B12 level. The SPSS was used to manipulate the data in relation to mean ±SD, frequencies and percentages and through chisquare test to get the p-values and its level of significance (≤0.05). Results: Total 145 patients with hypothyroidism were evaluated for B12 deficiency, of which 97 (66.8%) were males and 48 (33.1%) were females respectively. Ninety patients (62%) were from urban areas while 55 (37.9%) was rural population. The mean ±SD for age of overall population was 41.83±8.93 years while the mean age ±SD for vitamin B12 deficient and non deficient was 39.96±7.82 and 40.74±8.54 years respectively. The vitamin B12 deficiency was observed in one hundred and five patients (72%), of which 69 (65.7%) males and 36 (34.3%) females. The mean ± SD for duration of infection in overall population was 5.32±1.53 months while it was 5.81±1.43 in vitamin B12 deficient individuals. Conclusion: The vitamin B12 deficiency is more pronounced in hypothyroid patients. In present series vitamin B12 deficiency was observed in 105 (72%) individuals with male predominance 69 (65.7%).

Objectives: To determine the frequency of liver fibrosis by non invasive markerin patients with chronic viral hepatitis B. Study Design: Cross sectional clearly investigate aboutchronic viral hepatitis population. Setting: Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad. Period: Sixmonths, 09-Jan-2014 to 08-July-2014. Patients and Methods: All the patients of 16-50 years ofage, of either gender with chronic viral hepatitis B infection for more than 6 months duration wereadmitted and evaluated for liver fibrosis through non invasive marker (APRI). The SPSS was usedto manipulate the data. Results: During six month study period, total 140 patients with chronicviral hepatitis B infected patients were evaluated for liver fibrosis. Majority of patients were fromurban areas 112/140 (80%). The mean ±SD for age of patients with chronic viral hepatitis Binfection was 37.95±9.77. The mean age ±SD of hepatic fibrotic patients was 35.72±7.62.The mean ±SD for age of male and female population was 35.83±8.74 and 33.83 ± 6.53respectively. The mean ± SD for APRI score in hepatic fibrotic subjects was 1.31±0.31 while inrelation to liver fibrotic male and female patients it was 0.91±0.21 and 1.00±0.32 respectively.Majority of the subjects were 30-39 years of age and the male population predominant (p=0.02)whereas the liver fibrosis was identified in 89/140 (63.5) [p=<0.01] as far as gender distributionis concerned. Conclusion: APRI may be used as a simple and readily available tool for thediagnosis of significant fibrosis in patients with chronic viral hepatitis B.
