Teratomas are among the most common tumors of childhood, but craniofacial teratomas are rare. They can be diagnosed antenatally. Craniofacial teratomas may cause airway obstruction in the newborn. We present a case of a newborn male child who was diagnosed to have a facial tumor in the 8th month of gestation. He was delivered normally and had no respiratory or feeding difficulties. He was also found to have a cleft palate. Serum alpha fetoprotein levels were normal. He underwent excision on day of life 9. At 11 months follow-up, he is well with no evidence of recurrence and good functional outcome.
Spigelian hernia is very rare in the paediatric age group. We present the case of an 11-month-old male child who presented with left Spigelian hernia with the left undescended testis in its sac. Hernia repair with orchidopexy was done using total laparoscopic approach. It is the first reported case of total laparoscopic repair of Spigelian hernia with undescended testis in the paediatric age group.
A B S T R A C TCongenital scaphoid megalourethra is a very rare congenital anomaly of the anterior urethra in males. Here, a case of scaphoid megalourethra and posterior urethral valves is presented. A one and half year old male child came to us with complaints of ballooning at the tip of penis since birth. Micturating cystourethrogram showed a dilated glanular urethra. The patient underwent a Nesbitt's longitudinal reduction urethroplasty with a single-staged, single layered repair. Post-operatively, the child passed a healthy stream of urine without straining.
A 4-year-old girl was admitted with the complaint of pain in lower abdomen and dysuria. She had exstrophy repair at 6 th month of life. Radiographic investigations revealed a large bladder calculus. An innovative treatment in the form of laser lithotripsy was carried out to prevent damaging an already highly compromised urinary bladder with an open surgery.
