Furthermore, learning is at the heart of corporate governance and it has become the essence of productive activity that has new rules, new boundaries and new ways of behaving (García et al., 2009). Thus, one of the strategic values of an organization lies in becoming a "learning organization". These organizations have an enterprise architecture that converts the firm into a place of learning, so the organization can make appropriate approaches to changing environment (Kogut & Zander, 1996; García et al., 2007). The concept of knowledge management involves managing the learning processes of individual and collective members of an organization. Therefore, it includes organizational learning (related to the creation of new knowledge), and most processes related to the acquisition of knowledge from outside, dissemination, storage and exploitation of knowledge at the firm (Day, 1992; García et al., 2009). So this paper analyzes how the 4 modes of knowledge conversion model proposed in the "knowledge creating organization" (Nonaka & Takeuchi, 1995): Socialization, Externalization, Combination and Internalization (SECI) affect organizational learning and the results of the organization. Analyzing a sample of 284 Spanish companies, we propose a model to analyze this relationship. The results show (1) a positive relation between the modes of knowledge creation, (2) knowledge creation influences organizational learning as an essential
Reverse logistics activities require the ability to generate new knowledge to reduce high uncertainty and to solve problems resulting of these activities. In this sense the purpose of this research is to understand how the modes of knowledge conversion (Nonaka & Takeuchi, 1995) affect reverse logistics and examine the joint influence of these variables on the flexibility of distribution of information (because information has a key role for these variables) and performance of the organization. Our results provide empirical evidence confirming 1) the more necessary is the knowledge creation processes in the organization the greater are the importance and the ability to anticipation of reverse logistics systems for the organization, 2) also we found the importance of reverse logistics enhances the effects of flexibility of distribution of information and reinforces the belief that it is a fundamental capacity that increases the value of the company's products obtained by reverse logistics processes, 3) the findings have provided empirical evidence of the existence of positive relationship between reverse logistics, flexibility and business performance. In short, the results have shown the importance for the organization of knowledge management systems and reverse logistics systems that give your company a greater ability to anticipate and flexibly to the increasing changes taking place in a competitive environment of high uncertainty. A number of implications and contributions stem from the discussion and conclusions of the study.
Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to increase knowledge about the four modes of knowledge conversion (SECI model: Socialization, Externalization, Combination, Internalization) and their impact on flexibility of distribution of information and performance. Design/methodology/approach -Based on a survey of 284 Spanish firms, the paper performs an empirical analysis using structural equation modelling. Findings -The results of the research confirm that the four modes of knowledge conversion have positive direct and indirect influences on the flexibility of distribution of information in the organization and therefore improve the company's performance. Practical implications -The structural equation model provides useful information for managers and researchers concerning how knowledge creation enhances flexibility and performance of the organization. Through better processes and tools for updating the organization's concepts or methods, flexibility programs, cross functional and self-directed teams, autonomy, participation, cooperation and coordination in the firm improve the flow of information and performance and reduce uncertainty in changing environments. Originality/value -The paper illustrates the effects of the four modes of knowledge creation on flexibility of distribution of information and demonstrates that these four modes of knowledge creation affect flexibility of distribution of information positively, thereby improving organizational performance.
Activities of Reverse Logistics require adequate knowledge management in all phases of return of the product that may help to solve problems it faces in all these processes (Wadhwa & Madaan, 2007), and also may approach the current goals of customer satisfaction and business benefit to the legislation for the environment. In this sense, it is fundamental for the organization to have ability to generate new knowledge to reduce the high
This study seeks to advance understanding and to provide empirical evidence of relationship of knowledge management components (knowledge acquisition, knowledge transfer, and knowledge use), business innovation and organizational performance. In this research are analysed at theoretical and empirical level the knowledge management components: acquisition, transfer and use of knowledge, and its importance for business innovation and organizational performance. We propose a model that includes both direct effects and indirect effects. The predicted effects are tested with data collected of 201 Spanish firms of high-tech services and high-tech manufacturing; the paper performs an empirical analysis using structural equation modelling. Results of this investigation confirm that knowledge management components have positive direct and indirect influences on the business innovation and therefore improve the company's performance.
