RESUMO INTRODUÇÃOAs doenças cardiovasculares (DCVs) são responsáveis pela maior taxa de morbidade e mortalidade em todo mundo, matando mais que qualquer outra doença.( WHO, 2012;WU, et al., 2010).São diversos os fatores de risco que predispõem ao desenvolvimento de DCVs. Dentre estes, as dislipidemias e a hipertensão representam mais de dois terços destes riscos, sendo que as dislipidemias destacam-se como as mais importantes tanto pela sua importância na gênese das DCVs, como pela sua freqüência populacional e possibilidade de tratamento (AACE, 2012;BERTOLAMI, 2007;CHAPMAN et al., 2010; GOODMAN e GILMAN, 2007;POLANCZYK, 2005).A dislipidemia mais comumente associada com o aumento no risco das DCVs é a hipercolesterolemia (BERTOLAMI, 2007).
