RESUMOEste trabalho apresenta uma alternativa para o tratamento de esgotos domésticos de pequenas comunidades, com a aplicação do efluente no solo para a cultura do milho. O experimento é constituído de sistemas modulares, que são compostos por dois reatores anaeróbios, um reator UASB e outro reator anaeróbio compartimentado (RAC), ambos combinados com quatro filtros anaeróbios. Os sistemas funcionaram, utilizando-se os seus efluentes como fonte de nutrientes para a cultura do milho. Foram feitos dois tratamentos testemunhas, sendo um em sequeiro (sem irrigação) e outro com suplementação hídrica, através de um sistema de irrigação por sulcos. Avaliou-se o desenvolvimento da cultura e sua respectiva produtividade em dois ciclos. Utilizaram-se sistemas modulares por ser uma maneira adequada e viável de promover o tratamento sanitário do esgoto de pequenas comunidades com o objetivo de maior e melhor preservação do meio ambiente. O emprego desta técnica propicia a vantagem de diminuição nos custos de produção e aumento na produtividade do milho, obtendo-se valores de 6307 e 6593 kg ha -1 na safrinha com efluente do UASB e RAC respectivamente, e na entressafra de 6323 e 5424 kg ha -1 .UNITERMOS: tratamento de esgoto, sistemas modulares, reatores anaeróbios, disposição no solo, reuso. ABSTRACTThis paper presents an alternative for domestic sewage treatment for small communities by applying the wastewater in the soil where corn is grown. The experiment consists of modular system composed of two anaerobic reactors: a UASB and a compartmentalized CAR both combined with four anaerobic filters. The systems worked by using their effluent as a nutrient source for corn crop. There were two control treatments, one in dry land being rain fed and the other getting water supply through a furrow irrigation system. We evaluated the development of its culture and productivity in two cycles. The use of modular systems is an appropriate and viable way to promote sanitary wastewater treatment for small communities aiming greater and better environment protection. This technique provides the advantage of reducing production costs and increasing maize productivity and the values obtained were: 6307 and 6593kg ha-1 for second season with effluent from UASB and CAR respectively and in dry season of 6323 and 5424 kg ha -1 .
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF TWO MODULAR SYSTEMS FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT IN RURAL COMMUNITIESABSTRACT: This research work introduces an alternative of low cost and easily installable system for treatment of wastewater applied to small communities. These experiments were developed at Experimental Field of Agricultural Engineering College (AEC/UNICAMP). The total volume produced at AEC is 20 m 3 day -1, and half part was treated by modular systems. The first system line (A) is composed by an UASB reactor (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) followed by two Anaerobic Filters and the second system (B) line is composed by a kind of reactor called CAR (Compartmented Anaerobic Reactor) and it is followed by two Anaerobic filters too. Both systems were handled from December of 2002 through February of 2004 totalizing 30 sample collections. It was concluded under comparation that both system performances were similar and obtained satisfactory results. Medium grades of efficiency in remotion of sedimentable solids, total suspended solids and CDO (Chemical demand of oxygen) obtained in modular system (A) were 99.58%; 94.33% and 67.30% respectively. Modular system (B) showed a remotion of 99.49%; 93.34% and 70.45% to the same evaluation parameters. Both modular systems demonstrated adequate and viable to promote a sanitary treatment of wastewater produced in small communities.
