En este artículo se muestra los resultados de la investigación efectuada para solucionar al problema de la agresiva contaminación de la fauna y flora existente en la bahía de Puno circundante a la laguna de estabilización El Espinar, causada por las aguas residuales que desbordan por los diques de esta laguna. El objetivo fue cuantificar el porcentaje de degradación anaeróbica de los lodos de aguas residuales de la laguna. Para efectuar el proceso de la digestión anaeróbica se utilizó 26,8 L de lodos cuyo contenido de agua es 90 %, depositado en un digestor experimental que trabajó a temperatura media mesofílica de 28,07 °C instalado al interior de un invernadero. Los resultados obtenidos, muestra la degradación de DQO (Demanda Química de Oxígeno) de 320,20 a 34,68 mg/L que representa la transformación de los lodos en biogás y biostatos. Con relación a la MO (materia orgánica), se observa que el valor porcentual de su contenido se incrementó de 22,28 a 69,69 % que representa polímeros acídicos, fenólicos y aromáticos, que se caracterizan por ser no biodegradables, conformados sobre todo por detergentes iónicos. La cantidad de biogás cuyo valor es de 128,6 L, representa una cantidad óptima, para determinar su calidad requiere la determinación de la capacidad calorífica. Durante la digestión anaeróbica mesofílica, la relación C/N ha variado desde 8,043 hasta 24,12 un rango en el cual es viable la producción de biogás.
