Espiritualidade. Abstract This essay seeks to define the horizon from which three questions are answered: can one live without religion? Does God exist? What is spirituality for atheists? Without the intention of taking a deep approach, I present some notes more on theological focus, taking as reference the book entitled of André Comte-Sponville, The Spirit of Atheism. Situated in this horizon, atheism is not reduced to the simple denial of God's existence. Keywords: Existence of God. Atheism. Spirituality.
The report concludes with a series of comments, deductions, conclusions and three appendices with detailed information on the subject of study: bibligraphy, specific vocabulary, and values on the status of the slum population and centres of analysis on informal settlements.
Abstract: The issue of the poor/poverty/Holy Mystery present in all religions acquires a peculiar connotation in Christianity in view of its relation with Jesus Christ: it is possible to find its basis in Christology, Ecclesiology and in the doctrine about the Trinity. The hope for a “church of the poor” comes to light during the Vatican II, echoes in the Council documents, reaches its mature explanation in the general assemblies of the Celam with the preferential option for the poor stated in Medellin (1968), confirmed in Puebla (1979), in Santo Domingo (1992) and in Aparecida (2007). In the latter, it acquires a peculiar connotation because of the international and continental context. The challenge we now face is how to put it into practice in such an adverse situation. In reply to this question, the present article puts forward some suggestions.
Abstract: The history of the Church in Brazil can be said to have three phases: Luso-Brazilian Catholicism, Romanized Catholicism and Renewed Catholicism. At present there are discussions about a possible fourth phase, but its characteristics are yet to be established. In each of these phases, the priests had a decisive role in terms of a characteristic lifestyle and pastoral activity. The phase in which we now find ourselves, as it gradually takes shape paves the way for a new style of priests more suited to this new phase. A style that embodies the way of life, the pastoral practice and the spirituality, all understood as three dimensions of one reality. This search for new paths occurs not only as an opening towards the new, within a movement of epochal change, but also in the light of the testimony of elders who in the past exercised the Ministry according to the most authentic apostolic spirit, even if limited by personal, social, cultural and ecclesial constraints.
