Анотація. Стаття присвячена проблемам підготовки фахівців з превентивної консервації творів мистецтва, і зокрема, у системі освітніх програм університетів Західної Європи та США. Метою статті є уточнення поняття превентивної консервації об'єктів культурної спадщини та інших, близьких за значенням понять; з'ясування базових принципів освіти превентивних консерваторів у закладах Західної Європи та США, а також актуальність запровадження подібної спеціальності вищої освіти в Україні. Методи дослідження: порівняльний аналіз і синтез, класифікація і систематизація даних, узагальнення. Результати. Шляхом вивчення наукових публікацій з'ясовано, що термін «превентивна консервація» з'явився у 1980-х роках; що засади превентивної (пасивної) консервації завжди були предметом викладання для консерваторів-реставраторів та (це ж стосується й українських освітньо-професійних та освітньо-наукових програм для реставраторів). Однак у ХХІ столітті, коли галузь превентивної консервації досягла значного рівня розвитку, постала необхідність виокремлення спеціальності «превентивна консервація» в освітньому просторі. Проаналізовано програми підготовки превентивних консерваторів у США (Університет Делавер), Франції (Національний інститут спадщини), Англії (Інститут мистецтва Курто), які дають змогу зрозуміти важливість набуття, окрім технічних знань, також і «м'яких навичок» (soft skills) роботи в команді, лідерства, визначення інституційних пріоритетів і цілей, письмової та усної комунікації. Щодо України, то основні поняття і правила превентивної консервації об'єктів культурної спадщини відображені переважно у публікаціях Національного науково-дослідного реставраційного центру України. Однак окремих освітніх програм для підготовки таких різнопланових фахівців, як превентивний консерватор, у закладах вищої освіти України на сьогодні не існує.
