Resumo: O termo "línguas negras" designa, em linguagem popular, as águas residuais sem tratamento e qualquer tipo de esgoto que deságue em rios, mares, valas, canais, lagos e lagunas. Este trabalho teve como objeto de estudo a identificação e mapeamento das "línguas negras" existentes nas praias urbanas de Maceió utilizando técnicas de geoprocessamento. Na convergência dos fatores mencionados, o trabalho demanda diagnosticar, por meio de mapeamento e geoprocessamento, a situação ambiental das "línguas negras" existentes nas praias urbanas de Maceió. Diante da formação desse fato, passou-se a investigar os indicadores formadores e de contribuição, a saber: as galerias pluviais e as bacias hidrográficas formadoras dessas "línguas negras". A pesquisa foi realizada através de levantamentos feitos em bancos de dados de empresas e órgãos públicos, trabalho de campo, análises estatísticas e interpretações de documentos cartográficos digitais, tendo como produto, diferentes mapeamentos das variáveis espaciais definidoras do problema estudado. Com o auxílio de um GPS, as línguas negras foram georreferenciadas e plotadas na base cartográfica de Maceió, definindo assim, a área de estudo. O estudo demonstrou que a maioria das línguas negras encontrase exatamente no final das galerias pluviais, evidenciando assim, a possibilidade da existência de ligações clandestinas nesta rede de galerias.
