A APA dos Morros Garapenses possui fósseis de pteridófitas e gimnospermas de idade permiana, mas que tem pouco reconhecimento até mesmo da comunidade local e carece de estudos mais aprofundados na área. Neste sentido, o foco dessa pesquisa está em realizar um levantamento dos fósseis vegetais presentes na área supracitada e apresentá-los à comunidade acadêmica, com o objetivo de transmitir conhecimento e sensibilizá-los quanto a importância da preservação. O estudo quali-quantitativo foi desenvolvido no município de Duque Bacelar – MA, onde foi constatada a ocorrência dos fósseis e teve como público alvo acadêmicos de licenciatura em Ciências Biológicas da Universidade Estadual do Maranhão – UEMA, campus Coelho Neto. Como instrumentos de coleta de dados foram utilizados questionários eletrônicos via google forms e visita de campo ao MUHNAP/Museu de História Natural e Ambiental do Vale do Parnaíba, onde estão catalogados alguns espécimes coletados. Analisando a percepção inicial dos alunos acerca dos fósseis vegetais presentes na APA, por meio da aplicação de questionário, foi observado que a maioria não possuía conhecimento dos mesmos, apesar de fazerem parte de sua cidade e região. A respeito disso foram elaborados materiais educativos, (vídeo e cartilha), com informações relevantes sobre o patrimônio presente na região e disponibilizado aos alunos. Os materiais foram divulgados de forma online, via redes sociais, WhatsApp e Instagram. Os resultados foram satisfatórios, os alunos mostraram interesse pelo material e deixaram opinião positiva sobre o mesmo, em um segundo questionário disponibilizado a eles, também de forma online.
