AbstractThis study focuses on the formation of the Royalist Volunteers (1823-1826) units after Ferdinand VII' s second restoration in the city of Lerida. It analyses the establishment of the Committee for the Promotion of the Lerida Royalist Volunteers intended to obtain the necessary equipment and weaponry. It also examines the oath of the flag by the Royalist Volunteers on the basis of Priest Manuel Costa' s sermon, the first officers appointed by the municipal corporation -all of them members of the local oligarchy-, the establishment of a Royalist Volunteers Deputy-Inspection, the new officers and, finally, the social and professional background of those enlisted immediately after the 1826 regulations were published.
