El presente artículo de investigación tiene como objetivo evaluar la variabilidad pluviométrica de la provincia de Formosa (Argentina), a fin de analizar la distribución espaciotemporal de los focos de calor, mediante el análisis de productos satelitales. Para ello, se analizaron las condiciones de sequías y de humedad con el Índice Estandarizado de Precipitación (SPEI), para el período 1955-2022; luego, se obtuvieron productos MODIS desde enero del 2020 hasta febrero del 2022. Posteriormente, los archivos vectoriales fueron procesados con el software ArcGIS, utilizando solo aquellos que poseían un nivel de confianza superior al 80 %. Se aplicó el análisis de Densidad de Kernel, para reconocer las zonas más afectadas del territorio. Los resultados mostraron que, en marzo del 2020, inició el periodo seco más intenso de los últimos 73 años, con una duración de 24 meses. Durante el 2020, se produjo la mayor cantidad de focos de calor, con un nivel de confianza alto (> 80 %), disminuyendo, considerablemente, durante el 2021, para luego ascender durante enero y febrero del 2022; se presentó una clara tendencia de focos de incendio en la porción central y oriental del territorio provincial.
