Lifetimes (the inverse of the total decay rates) of several 3p and 3d levels in Ca-,
Ar-, Cl- and Si-like ions of Fe that decay only by electric-dipole-forbidden
transitions have been measured optically using a heavy-ion storage ring, observing
either near-UV or EUV light. In several cases, more than one decay contributes to
a given decay curve, which complicates the analysis. The lifetime results, with a
precision ranging from 0.8 to 10%, compare well with some theoretical predictions.
Rates of an intercombination transition and several electric-dipole forbidden transitions between the levels of the ground complex in C-like ions of O and F and in N-like ions of S have been measured optically at a heavy-ion storage ring. The lifetime results, 1.250͑13͒ ms for the 2s2p 3 5 S 2 o level in O 2ϩ , 530͑25͒ and 304͑5͒ ms for the 2s 2 2p 2 1 S o level in O 2ϩ and F 3ϩ , respectively, and 5.20͑15͒ and 2.10͑6͒ ms for the 2s 2 2p 3 2 P 1/2,3/2 o levels of S 9ϩ , agree with only some of the theoretical predictions, while they have a lower estimated uncertainty than all of them.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
