O açaí (Euterpe oleracea) é um fruto nativo da Amazônia que, além de apresentar alto potencial nutritivo, tem papel de destaque no setor comercial, econômico e na cultura da população da região norte do país. Durante o beneficiamento do açaí, é gerado uma quantidade significativa de efluentes, cuja destinação é incerta, principalmente em menores centros. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a toxidade do efluente do açaí bruto e diluído utilizando bioensaios com repolho (Brassica oleracea). Os testes foram realizados em placa de petri e câmara de germinação durante 120 horas, na completa ausência de luz, a 24ºC, com o efluente bruto e diluído nas concentrações de 25%, 50% e 75%, além do tratamento controle com água. O efluente diluído em 25% apresentou resultados positivos para a germinação da semente e crescimento da radícula. Contudo, a análise de regressão indicou uma relação linear inversa e a toxicidade aumentou à medida que o efluente de açaí se apresentou mais concentrado, o que pode estar relacionado com os índices de matéria orgânica e inorgânica e com a acidez do efluente. Esses resultados indicam a necessidade dos batedores de açaí em realizar a diluição e/ou o tratamento do efluente antes do descarte nos corpos receptores e/ou no solo.
