Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the value of internship as a function of the disparity between the initial expectation from the internship and its actual experience. The perceived internship experience has been evaluated through the expectation confirmation theory (ECT). Design/methodology/approach A sample of 106 students pursuing Master of Business Administration in a business school in India were administered a questionnaire to assess their expectations and experience before and after the internship. The self-designed questionnaire based on review of extant literature on internship included items related to supervisor–intern exchanges, significance of prior classroom academic preparation, prior work experience and perceived learning value. Students’ assessment scores on the internship project were taken as the outcome variable. Findings Pre- and post-analysis of perceived internship value indicated a positive expectation disconfirmation. The result indicates that “Positive Expectation Disconfirmation” has a significant direct relationship with overall satisfaction with internship. Structural equation modeling further revealed that perceived quality of the supervisor–intern exchange has a significant relationship with perceived internship value. Perceived significance of classroom academic preparation has a weak negative relationship with both perceived internship value and internship performance. Perceived internship value has a weak positive relationship with internship performance. Originality/value It is first time an attempt has been made to look into the issue of internship from the ECT.

Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator widely used in the treatment of hormone-responsive breast cancer. Ocular complications are rare with tamoxifen therapy and include cataract, vortex keratopathy, optic neuritis, and retinopathy. Crystalline maculopathy is one of the rare side effects of long-term tamoxifen use, which can be detected by noninvasive diagnostic tools such as OCT. Our patient is the oldest such patient reported in literature. Patients receiving tamoxifen therapy must be informed about the potential side-effects, and the need for serial ophthalmic examination to detect early signs of toxicity.

The combined beneficial effect of shoot-tip grafting with phytotherapy of different phytoproteins obtained from roots of Boerhaavia diffusa and leaves of Clerodendrum aculeatum to eliminate Indian citrus ringspot virus (ICRSV) from Kinnow is reported. The study also reports the effect of these phytoproteins on the growth and proliferation of Kinnow explants when nodal segments from infected mother plants (confirmed by RT-PCR) cultured in MS containing different concentrations of aqueous extracts of these individual phytoproteins. Shoot-tips from these nodal sprouts were grafted on Citrus jambhiri under in vitro condition. Phytoproteins from C. aculeatum were found utmost effective in respect of elimination of 50% virus followed by B. diffusa (40%). In respect of promotion of growth and proliferation of nodal explants, B. diffusa was found most effective followed by C. aculeatum. The plants were considered virus-free when they showed absence of ICRSV in both DAC-ELISA and RT-PCR tests.

Arnold chiari malformation (ACM) Type II is a developmental abnormality of the brainstem and cerebellar tonsil, medulla and protrusion of 4 th ventricle into cervical spinal canal. To best of our knowledge, there is paucity of literature regarding anesthetic management of cases with ACM type II. The anesthetic concerns with general anesthesia are related to the risk of autonomic dysfunction, difficult airway management, damage to the spinal cord and sensitivity to neuromuscular blocking agents. There is risk of increasing intracranial pressure and brainstem compression or herniation leading to hemodynamic and respiratory compromise, due to presence of meningomyelocoele, syringohydromyelia and tethered spinal cord.
