Abstract. This chapter presents general concepts and definitions which will be used throughout this book. A fuzzy subset is defined as a collection of values between 0 and 1 which represents a degree of membership of each element in the set. When comparing two elements from two sets and the degree of preference for one element to the other, we call this a fuzzy relation.
