AThis article gives a survey and analysis of the Hellenistic elements in Catullus 63. After a description of the poem's Hellenistic background it is argued that in this poem Catullus makes a selective, but careful and creative use of Hellenistic elements, with a certain focus on the means of allusion and Kreuzung der Gattungen. In doing so he alerts the reader to the poem's position within the literary tradition and within his own corpus. The meta-poetic aspects of his treatment of Hellenistic elements may require further exploration.
