Face à un nombre croissant de patients atteints de pathologies du système nerveux central, la rééducation neurologique a beaucoup évolué et s'est enrichie de nouvelles méthodes. Grâce aux systèmes d'imagerie dont l'IRM fonctionnelle, on sait aujourd'hui que la kinésithérapie joue un véritable rôle sur la récupération après lésions cérébrales. Sous l'effet de l'expérience et de la contrainte de l'environnement, les connexions neuronales se modifient et de nouvelles se créent : on appelle ceci la neuroplasticité. C'est précisément sur ce phénomène que va jouer la rééducation neurologique, par le mouvement.Les patients neuro-lésés sont le plus souvent pris en charge à l'hôpital ou en centre de rééducation, initialement, puis en cabinet libéral. Mais ils se heurtent à de nombreux obstacles : cabinet à l'étage sans ascenseur, matériel non adapté, rééducation non appropriée à leur pathologie, etc. C'est pourquoi, certains centres tentent de mettre en place des réseaux « hôpitauxlibéraux » pour un meilleur suivi à long terme.Le projet rééducatif, établi à partir du bilan kinésithérapique, doit répondre à des objectifs concrets et fonctionnels. Celui-ci est spécifique de chaque cas pathologique et tient compte des troubles neuropsychologiques qui vont conditionner le déroulement des séances de kinésithérapie.Ces patients attendent beaucoup de la rééducation, chaque progrès est une victoire sur leur handicap. C'est donc à nous, kinésithérapeutes, de mettre en place une rééducation pertinente et personnalisée dans le but d'améliorer leur qualité de vie.Ce livre a pour but d'aider les professionnels à comprendre les pathologies neurologiques et les véritables enjeux de la rééducation. De plus, il permettra aux praticiens d'adapter et d'actualiser leur pratique à partir des nouvelles approches en neurologie centrale.Ce livre s'adresse aux professionnels de la rééducation : kinésithérapeutes, ergothérapeutes, psychomotriciens, médecins de médecine physique et rééducation, éducateurs spécialisés ainsi qu'à tous les intervenants auprès des patients atteints de pathologies neurologiques centrales.
