The Penn State University Libraries partnered with Sony Electronics, Inc., to test the Sony Reader in the academic environment. Since 2008, they have tested the Reader extensively in teaching, lending, and disability services. This article discusses the preliminary research project. Although not scientific in nature, the article presents findings from surveys of 239 participants in the classroom setting, 15 library users who borrowed Sony Readers, and a single participant and the director of the disability services portion of the project.
