The experience with replantation of amputated or devascularized parts of the upper extremity distal to the wrist was reviewed for 1976-1980 and again in a similar way for 1986-1989. Comparisons between the two groups were made to look for similarities and differences. Analysis of this experience may help treating physicians, patients, and third-party payers to make decisions about management of these injuries.
