Background and aims: COVID-19 is a contagious disease caused by a new coronavirus known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Till now there are no vaccines and explicit medicines available for the treatment of COVID-19 disease, therefore the initiatives like public health and social measures are helpful in limiting the quantity of contaminations and saving lives. Keeping this in view, an attempt has been made in the present work to identify the barriers which hinder the implementation of these public health and social measures Methods: The barriers to implement public health and social measures for preventing transmission of COVID-19 are identified using systematic literature review and these barriers are then categorized using Decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method. Results: Results reveal that among ten identified barriers, Lack of resources for implementing public health and social measures is found to be the most influential barrier to implement public health and social measures for preventing transmission of COVID-19. Conclusions: The successful implementation of public health and social measures depends on the adequate availability of resources which include medical equipment, personnel and financial dealings. The outcome of this research work will benefit and motivate the higher authorities to consider and overcome various challenges to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
PurposeThe successful transition towards the circular economy is a requirement of this technological era. The objective of this study is to identify critical success factors behind the successful transition to the circular economy.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review and experts' inputs are used to identify the major critical success factors of a successful transition towards a circular economy. Further, DANP is applied to discover the interrelationships among the critical success factors dimensions by analyzing causal relations between the relevant critical success factors. Additionally, the ranking of significant critical success factors for the successful transition towards the circular economy is determined.FindingsThis study has used the DANP methodology to understand the relationships among the five dimensions and the twenty-two critical success factors and identified the key influencing critical success factors through their global weights. Research findings suggest that “vision regard to a circular economy” has the highest weights, followed by “financial sustainability” which is regarded as the most important CSF.Research limitations/implicationsThe outcomes of this work may help organizations on issues related to the transition of the linear economy towards circular economy, in understanding the degree of importance of the each critical success factors, based on which the organizations can formulate an effective strategy to systematically emphasize critical success factors as per their importance for the successful transition towards circular economy.Originality/valueThis study tries to explore and analyze critical success factors of the transition from the linear economy to a circular economy. Further, the finding of this study provides deeper insights into academia and mangers that helps to formulate their action plan for moving towards the circular economy.
The concept of the circular economy has acquired importance in the academic world. The corporate firms and governments believe that the pressure on the environment can be reduced by implementing the circular economic system. The switching of a linear economy to a circular economy requires to build new business models that overcome the limitations of the linear model of the economy.This paper aims to rank the business models for the successful adoption of the circular economy through the criteria by employing an appropriate multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) method.Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (Fuzzy TOPSIS) has been used in this study. Eleven Business Models have been identified through literature review and analyzed based on nine criteria for the business model to be successful. The ranking of results indicates that the product and process design is the most important business models for the implementation of the circular economy. The findings of this research enhance the understanding about the relative importance of the several business models based on which the management can formulate an effective strategy to systematically adopt an appropriate business model for successful implementation of an economic system.
