La contribution vise à étudier les formes de distinction des individus, induites par des facteurs ethniques et sociaux, au sein de trois secteurs funéraires inédits de Pontecagnano (viiie‑viie siècles av. J.‑C.). Le site représente un observatoire privilégié des phénomènes de mobilité et d’intégration culturelle, objet d’un débat interdisciplinaire qui touche des thèmes aussi bien anthropologiques qu’archéologiques. À partir de ces prémisses, l’analyse portera sur des zones funéraires dont la formation relève de la réorganisation du site au passage à l’âge orientalisant. La récurrence d’indicateurs spécifiques dans le mobilier funéraire des sépultures examinées sera considérée en relation avec le rituel et avec la stratigraphie horizontale et verticale des sépultures. Ainsi, la réflexion cherchera à mettre en évidence la matérialisation des frontières culturelles entre les différentes composantes sociales de Pontecagnano à l’époque orientalisante. Enfin, la contribution soulève d’importantes questions méthodologiques concernant le rapport problématique qu’entretiennent ethnicité et culture matérielle, dont on souligne la valeur active dans la formation et la représentation des constructions identitaires.
