Complicações são o que acontecem após o ato cirúrgico, enquanto acidentes são aqueles que acontecem fora do planejamento, no período transoperatório. A literatura evidencia que, entre os principais acidentes e complicações durante e após o procedimento de exodontia de terceiros molares, estão a fratura de elemento (s) dentário (s), parestesia do nervo alveolar inferior, comunicação buco-sinusal, hemorragia, hematoma, alveolite, dor, edema, trismo, luxação da articulação e fratura de mandíbula. Por esse motivo, é imprescindível que o cirurgião-dentista busque conhecimento prévio teórico e prático dos procedimentos odontológicos a serem realizados, assim como meios de condutas e cuidados em casos de intercorrências. O presente trabalho relata uma revisão de literatura narrativa sobre complicações e acidentes cirúrgicos de terceiros molares, tendo como objetivo discorrer sobre os fatores que levam ao seu surgimento. As bases de dados selecionadas para o estudo foram Google Acadêmico e Pubmed, sendo selecionados mediante critérios de inclusão e exclusão estabelecidos.
A COVID-19 é considerada uma patologia infecciosa provocada pela síndrome respiratória aguda grave. Sua principal via de transmissão se dá através da inalação de gotículas de saliva e secreções respiratórias contaminadas, além de que apresenta diversas complicações relacionadas ao sistema estomatognático, bem como a presença de anosmia e disgeusia. Visto isso, o objetivo deste trabalho foi discorrer acerca do papel do cirurgião-dentista atuando em unidades de terapia intensiva na linha de frente contra a COVID-19. Quanto à metodologia utilizada consiste em uma revisão de literatura narrativa, por meio da busca nas bases de dados PUBMED, Google Acadêmico, LILACS, Medline e Science. Observou-se que indivíduos de idade avançada ou com problemas médicos severos, tais como doença pulmonar crônica, diabetes e problemas cardíacos, são mais propensos a desenvolver doenças graves em função da infecção pelo novo coronavírus; ao passo em que a falta de saúde bucal é capaz de debilitar ainda mais este paciente. Foi constatado que a introdução dos cirurgiões-dentistas trouxe diversos benefícios relacionados à manutenção da saúde bucal do paciente, benefícios relacionados à saúde geral, com prevenção e tratamento de infecções oportunistas e diminuição no tempo de internação dos pacientes, visto que casos de bacteremia e pneumonia nosocomial estão associados também às desregulações da microbiota na cavidade bucal.
O processo estiloide é uma estrutura óssea que se projeta para baixo e para frente da face, estando em posição anterior ao osso Temporal, e com característica delgada e pontuda. A Síndrome de Eagle ocorre em função ou o alongamento do processo estilóide, posteriormente a uma ossificação de um remanescente embriológico da cartilagem do segundo arco branquial, ou devido à calcificação do ligamento estilo-hiódeo. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo discorrer sobre as possíveis formas de tratamento cirúrgico para a Síndrome de Eagle, e trata-se de uma revisão de literatura realizada a partir de publicações científicas em bases de dados como a Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), Pubmed/Medline, Scielo e Google Acadêmico, utilizando descritores em nas línguas portuguesa e inglesa. Para o tratamento da Síndrome de Eagle, é considerada a severidade dos sintomas, assim, em casos de dor leve a moderada, o tratamento inicial é o tratamento farmacológico, com administração de antidepressivos, benzodiazepínicos, anticonvulsivantes ou realização de infiltrações de esteroides e/ou anestésicos locais. Entretanto, nos casos de dor intensa e severa, o tratamento proposto é a ressecção cirúrgica completa do processo estiloide (estiloidectomia), que pode ser realizada pela via intrabucal ou extrabucal, na qual a escolha de uma das duas estará baseada na experiência do cirurgião e as condições de trabalho. Dessa forma, conclui-se que a escolha do tratamento depende da avaliação minuciosa feita pelo cirurgião-dentista e pelo quadro do paciente.
