A 14-year-old girl developed an eruption on her upper arm of pruritic, follicular papules each time she received a vaccination. This was initially thought to be a local reaction to the vaccines. After a similar rash appeared at a venepuncture site, a contact allergy to the alcohol swabs used before the procedures was postulated. A repeated open application test clarified this observation.
We report a case of significant weight loss experienced by a 44‐year‐old Caucasian woman treated with reboxetine. She was treated with this drug at 12 mg daily for a total duration of 11 months. During the corresponding period her body mass index (BMI) decreased from a baseline of 21.4 kg m−2 to a low of 16.8 kg m−2. Withdrawal of the drug led to a full recovery of her BMI. The strongest evidence linking reboxetine to this woman's weight loss laid in the fact that the re‐introduction of the drug subsequently caused a similar negative impact in her BMI.
Linear IgA disease causes progressive conjunctival cicatrization in many affected individuals. Although dapsone generally controls the inflammation, heavier systemic immunosuppression was required in this case. Involvement of skin or other mucosal surfaces may become symptomatic before the conjunctivitis, and physicians must be educated to refer patients for ophthalmological review on diagnosis. Conversely, ophthalmologists encountering ocular linear IgA disease should be aware of the possibility of other mucosal involvement requiring physician intervention.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
