The current study, therefore, is an attempt to identify children with learning disorders and explore the prevalence of the problem and etiological factors e.g., family environment, social factors and developmental issues of child and associated co-morbidities. More studies with larger sample size should be undertaken to get accurate picture of these disorders. There is also need for some community based programme to raise the level of awareness and knowledge about these disorders in general population.
Census shows that one out of every two elderly suffers from at least alone chronic disease that
requires lifelong medication. Nearly 50% report arthritis, 40% hypertention, 30% hearing
impairement, 40% defective vision, 10% diabetes, 89 out of every 1000 are mentally ill. Ayurveda has
considered Jara as one of the branch among eight branches of Ayurveda but detailed description as a
disease has not been mentioned anywhere. Process of ageing can be described by Sahaja Theory and
Vatic Theory and how various pathological factors such as impaired Dhatu Vyuha Karatha, Rasa
Shoshana, Dhatu Asamata, Agni Asamata, Mano Vyaharsha and Ayu Upaghata leads to Ojakshaya and
ultimately Jara.
Context:Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are one of the most catastrophic events of health causing huge psychosocial and economic morbidity consequences.Aim:The study aims to study the clinico-epidemiological profile and high-risk sexual behavior among clients attending STI clinic at tertiary care hospital in North India.Materials and Methods:The present study was conducted at STI clinic, King George's Medical University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Data from 1283 clients attending STI clinic between August 2015 and July 2016 were compiled using master client register and STI/reproductive tract infection patient-wise register, and a final completed data set of these patients was analyzed according to the aims and objectives. Results:On analyzing the various factors associated with high-risk sexual behavior among clients attending STI clinic marital status, sexual preference and employment status were found to be significantly associated with high-risk sexual behavior (P < 0.05). On multivariate analysis, unmarried/divorced/widow/separated marital status (odds ratio [OR]: 14.72; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.89–114.17; P = 0.00) and unemployed status (OR: 6.10; 95% CI: 2.00–18.60; P = 0.02) were found to be independent predictors of high-risk sexual behavior (unprotected sex). Conclusions:Based on findings of study, it is highly recommended to provide periodic screening to these STI patients for assessment of their sexual behavior along with specific counseling session.
Sir, Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a rare (1: 160000 population) heterogeneous, autosomal recessive disorder characterized by polydactyly, obesity, mental retardation, hypogonadism and renal failure. This is also called Laurence-Moon-Bardet-Biedl syndrome (LMBBS), but different from Laurence-Moon-Biedl syndrome (LMBS). This entity came into picture when George Bardet done his MD thesis on " Hypothalamic obesity" under Louis Pasteur. He noticed number of cases with unusual features in particular hexadectyly, retinitis pigmentosa and obesity. This syndrome needs either four primary or three primary plus two secondary features for the diagnosis.
BackgroundAutologous hamstring graft remains to be a commonly used graft for Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in sportspersons. With less graft failure rates, better mechanical stability and proprioception with preserved insertion hamstring graft, we investigated long term outcomes of hamstring graft with preserved insertion. Methods: 441 sportspersons were enrolled in the study. They were divided into two groups by computerized randomization. In Group I, ACL reconstruction was done using hamstring free graft (STGF), and in Group II, ACL reconstruction was done using hamstring graft with preserved tibial insertion (STGPI). Postoperatively, patients were assessed for graft rupture, knee stability, Lysholm score, tegner activity and WOMAC score.ResultsThe average age of the patients was 24 ± 2 years in group 1 and 27 ± 8.5 years in group 2. At 5 years, the mean KT-1000 difference was 2.01 in group 1 and 1.96 in group 2 (P = 0.77); the mean Lysholm score was 97.80 and 98.60(p = 0.07), respectively; mean WOMAC score was 3.09 and 3.12(p = 0.89) respectively; mean difference between the pre-injury and post-surgery Tegner level of sports activity was 1.78 and 0.54(P < 0.05), respectively and graft failure rate was 4.1% and 7.7%.(p < 0.05), respectively.ConclusionWe report STGPI to be a more viable option than hamstring free graft in sportspersons for ACL reconstruction due to less graft failure rates and better tegner activity score postoperatively. Further, STGPI is an option with low graft failure rate like that of Bone Patellar Tendon Bone graft, with added advantage of not having significant donor site morbidity.Level of EvidenceLevel 1, Randomized Controlled Trial
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
