A n g e wA n d t e g e o g r A p h i e regionen stehen untereinander in einem sich ständig verstärkenden wettbewerb, in dem die regionen einen Vorteil haben, die sich mit einem einheitlichen Außenbild in der wahrnehmung potenzieller nachfrager (investoren, Besucher, einwohner) positionieren können. Mancherorts mag ein solches Außenbild durch historische oder landschaftliche gegebenheiten leicht erzeugbar bzw. idealerweise bereits vorhanden sein, in anderen Fällen muss ein image erst hergestellt werden. damit wird vor allem seitens der eU als Fördermittelgeberin die erwartung verbunden, dass einerseits die einwohner sich stärker für den erhalt ihres Lebensraumes einsetzen und andererseits Unternehmen, Vereine und Verwaltungen sich mit den ihnen zur Verfügung stehenden ressourcen am regionalentwicklungsprozess beteiligen. der Beitrag schildert erfahrungen aus diesem prozess aus Sicht der beteiligten Akteure und einwohner in einer im Zuge des iLe-prozesses neu entstandenen region im ländlichen raum nordsachsens. Region als Marke -Identitätsbildung als StrategieSprechen wir heute vom Schwarzwald, hat jeder sofort ein bestimmtes Bild im Kopf: Assoziiert wird eine region, die auf eine sehr lange tradition zurückblickt, die jährlich tausende von Besuchern anzieht, in der die Menschen gern leben und arbeiten und aus der nicht zuletzt Qualitätspro-dukte wie der Schwarzwälder Schinken stammen. "der weg dahin war lang -genau besehen sehr lang: 100 Jahre hat es gebraucht, bis der Schwarzwald sich unter einem einzigen dach gesammelt hatte" (Buding 2010).damit wird einer der in den raumwissenschaften etablierten verschiedenen regionsbegriffe angesprochen (holt-Jensen 1999): der ideographische regionsbegriff, der regionen gegeneinander abgrenzt durch die Suche nach intraregionalen gemeinsamkeiten und interregionalen Unterschieden, die beide als Ankerpunkte für eine regionalidentität dienen können. in einem relationalen Verständnis werden Regionen eher als Verflechtungsräume identifiziert, die etwa auf Pendelbeziehungen, wirtschaftlichen Austauschprozessen oder alltäglichen Standorts-und Mobilitätsentscheidungen beruhen (werlen 2000). Mit der aktuellen eU-politik ("europa der regionen") wird schließ-lich ein normativer Anspruch gestellt, der mit der idee verbunden ist, regionen zu bilden, die sich durch gemeinsame interessen auszeichnen und auf gemeinsame entwicklungsziele einigen. So wagen seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre zahlreiche Kommunen in deutschland gemeinsam den langen weg, eine region zu werden. derzeit existieren in Sachsen 33 solche gebiete, die sich je nach Förderstatus in 21 iLe-und 12 LeAder-gebiete gliedern (SMUL 2007). die Frage ist, welche dieser neu entstandenen gebiete nachhaltig zusammenwachsen können und auch in Zukunft als region im obigen Sinne Bestand haben werden. Um diesem normativen Anspruch gerecht zu werden, sieht beispielsweise das integrierte ländliche entwicklungskonzept für die region "Sächsisches Zweistromland" den Aufbau der Marke "Zweistromland" vor. die Akteure verbinden damit die hoffnung, dass ...
