Background : The children are a nation's investment, because they are the next generation of the nation. The quality of the nation in the future is determined by the quality of children today. Indonesia and other developing countries in general are still dominated by four major nutritional problemsObjective : This research aimed to analyze prevalence of anemia, breakfast habits, nutritional status in school children and compare two childhood education centers located in public and private school in Kupang City, East Nusa TenggaraMethods : This research used 645 were included in this cross sectional study and was done in March until May 2017. The subjects were fourth, fifth and sixth grade of elementary of public school (SD bertingkat Kelapa Lima 1, SD Inpres Bakunase) and private school (SD Asumta, SD GMIT Naioni, SDI Maulafa dan SDK Don Bosco 3). Breakfast habits data were collected by filling questionnaire; nutritional status was estimated by BMI/Age , Height/Age which weight and height of subjects were measured directly; and anemia status was estimated by hemoglobin test/hemocue. The frequency of breakfast is determined based on always breakfast and no breakfast and the sample usually consume breakfast before 7 am.Result : Compare two childhood education centre was Significant differences between public and private schools were found in nutritional status variables with height for age indicators and on breakfast habits. The prevalence of anemia in elementary school children in Kupang by 27% which is measured by blood hemoglobin levels. Contribution of great family, gender and age in students were higher with regular breakfast. The difference in the variable nutritional status with height for age indicator with a value of p = 0.034 and breakfast habits with a value of p = 0.002Conclusion : The differences in breakfast habits in public and private elementary school children are thought by the role of teachers in schools and breakfast habits can help improve nutritional status and blood hemoglobin levels
ABSTRAK Anak usia sekolah merupakan kelompok yang rentan mengalami masalah gizi seperti gizi kurang, stunting dan obesitas. Kabupaten Kupang menempati urutan keempat dengan kejadian stunting tertinggi di Provinsi NTT, dengan 27,4% pada balita pendek dan 19,8% pada balita yang sangat pendek sehingga diperlukan berbagai upaya untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut satunya dengan edukasi gizi. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan di SD Inpres Batakte Kabupaten Kupang pada bulan mei 2023. Kegiatan terdiri dari edukasi gizi seimbang menggunakan media food model, penilaian status gizi (TB/U) dan pemberian PMT. Peserta kegiatan ini adalah siswa kelas I-VI. Edukasi gizi menggunakan food model dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa dari 54% dan menjadi 78%. Hasil penilaian status gizi (TB/U) terdapat 19% siswa yang tergolong pendek dan 9,2% siswa yang tergolong sangat pendek pada SD Inpres Batakte yang perlu menjadi perhatian pihak terkait. Rekomendasi kegiatan tindak lanjut adalah memberikan meningkatkan frekuensi edukasi dan pemantauan status gizi serta memberikan intervensi gizi yang lebih optimal untuk meningkatkan status gizi siswa. Kata Kunci: Stunting, Food Model, PMT-AS ABSTRACT School-age children are a group that is vulnerable to nutritional problems such as malnutrition, stunting, and obesity. Kupang Regency is in fourth place with the highest incidence of stunting in the Province of NTT, with a proportion of 27.4% for short toddlers and 19.8% for very short toddlers, so various efforts are needed to overcome this problem, one of which is nutrition education. This community service activity was carried out at SD Inpres Batakte, Kupang Regency, in May 2023. The activity consisted of education on balanced nutrition using the media food model, assessment of nutritional status (TB/U), and provision of PMT. The participants in this activity were students in grades I–VI. Nutrition education using the food model can increase students' knowledge from 54% to 78%. The results of the nutritional status assessment (TB/U) found that 19% of students were classified as short and 9.2% of students were classified as very short at SD Inpres Batakte, which needed to be brought to the attention of related parties. The recommendation for follow-up activities is to provide nutritional interventions in the form of PMT for school children with a more optimal number and frequency to improve students' nutritional status.
