Objetivo: Analisar no fígado, baço e jejuno de camundongos as alterações histopatológicas induzidas pela esquistossomose quando em associação com a desnutrição. Metodologia: Foram utilizados camundongos recém-desmamados (21 dias de idade), divididos em quatro grupos, dois dos quais foram infectados (via percutânea) com 40 cercárias de Schistosoma. mansoni. Os grupos, em cada condição, infectado ou não infectado, receberam dieta controle (Labina®) ou foram submetidos à desnutrição pelo consumo da Dieta Básica Regional. Foram determinadas a carga parasitária, pelo exame parasitológico quantitativo, a taxa de mortalidade e a curva ponderal. O experimento teve duração de 90 dias e no fim desse período foram obtidas amostras de fígado, baço e jejuno para serem processadas de acordo com a técnica de rotina para análise morfológica. Resultados: a carga parasitária verificada após os exames mostrou que os animais desnutridos eliminaram mais ovos que os nutridos. A infecção, não a desnutrição, causou maior mortalidade. A curva ponderal estabeleceu que os grupos tiveram desenvolvimento abaixo do apresentado pelo grupo controle. O exame histopatológico mostrou que a desnutrição isoladamente não causou alterações nos órgãos examinados. Na esquistossomose, verificou-se o período de transição da doença entre as fases aguda e crônica. Nos animais nutridos, o processo inflamatório foi mais intenso, com maior formação colagênica no fígado e com maior número de granulomas que nos desnutridos. Nos desnutridos, granulomas hepáticos mostraram-se em fase exsudativa, com infiltrado predominantemente eosinofílico. O jejuno nos nutridos apresentou mais granulomas nas camadas serosa e muscular, raros na submucosa e formações pseudoneoplásicas na serosa. Poucos granulomas foram encontrados no intestino dos animais desnutridos. Sua presença no baço, que é rara na espécie humana e em camundongos, foi observada tanto nos nutridos como nos desnutridos. Conclusão: a alta mortalidade dos animais do experimento foi devida à infecção. O estado nutricional do hospedeiro repercutiu na evolução da esquistossomose. Nos animais nutridos a inflamação granulomatosa foi mais exacerbada com reações hiperplásicas. Nos desnutridos, o
