ResumenEl presente artículo de investigación ofrece un análisis cualitativo sobre unas de las recientes investigaciones en el área española y suramericana que estudian el reformismo borbónico, un tema muy discutido en el ámbito historiográfico que, como emerge de las conclusiones, todavía no crea unanimidad en las interpretaciones, al existir diferentes opiniones sobre los orígenes y el alcance de las reformas, incluso la periodización del reformismo mismo.

AbstractThe present research article offers a qualitative analysis on some of the recent investigations in the Spanish and South American area that study the Bourbon Reformism, a subject very discussed in the historiographic field that, as it emerges from the conclusions, still does not create unanimity in the interpretations, to remain of different opinions on the origins and scope of the reforms, including the periodization of reformism itself.

BOURBON REFORMISM IN SPAIN AND THE AMERICAN COLONIES: A HISTORIOGRAPHICAL ANALYSIS
IntroducciónEl tema de la modernidad del reformismo borbónico y su alcance, como un vehículo de la modernidad en la España del Antiguo Régi-men, todavía no constituye, en el estado actual del debate historiográ-fico, un modelo interpretativo unívoco y consolidado. Por el contrario, las más recientes publicaciones, producto de investigaciones nacidas a la luz de la refutación de categorías tales como el absolutismo y su supuesta modernidad en el proceso de construcción del Estado, o como el binomio de absolutismo/despotismo ilustrado, parecen testificar, aún más, la existencia de diferentes interpretaciones. La fase decisiva del absolutismo político de los siglos xvi y xvii, como la ha trasmitido la historiografía clásica -es decir, una etapa específica en la historia de la formación del Estado en Europa, caracterizada por procesos fuertes de centralización dentro de las monarquías y por el fortalecimiento de instrumentos tanto militares como burocrático-administrativos, en los cuales estas podían confiar, como una forma, y luego, un momento de desarrollo esencial del Estado moderno-ha sido objeto de recientes aclaraciones.
