La administración de la memoria es una de las tareas más importantes que realiza el Sistema Operativo, buscando siempre el mejor rendimiento, aplicando métodos y operaciones que ayuden a mejorar el uso de los recursos. El sistema se va a encargar, por medio de sus esquemas de manejo de memoria, de tal forma que se aproveche de manera adecuada la memoria disponible. Trabajando por medio del procesador que va a ser designado para estas operaciones como memoria virtual.
El presente trabajo tiene como finalidad introducir en el sistema de Entrada/Salida (E/S) de un sistema de cómputo. El sistema de E/S es una interfaz que posee una computadora con el exterior y tiene como principal objetivo el facilitar todas las operaciones de E/S entre los periféricos y la memoria o a su vez los registros del procesador. Para gestionar las operaciones de E/S es fundamental un hardware y complementar con la ayuda de un software. El sistema hardware y el Sistema Operativo (SO) de un sistema de cómputo tienen la finalidad de satisfacer las demandas de los usuarios en la ejecución de tareas específicas.
El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo mostrar una revisión del Sistema de archivos del sistema informático. Por tal motivo, se describen aspectos de gestión de almacenamiento, las configuraciones RAID que son sistemas de almacenamiento existentes que conlleva a redundar información para tolerar fallas en el almacenamiento local. De igual manera, se describe el funcionamiento del sistema de almacenamiento PVFS que permite hacer una distribución entre diferentes nodos que intervienen en el almacenamiento de un centro de procesamiento de datos. Por último, se mencionan los formatos utilizados en los sistemas operativos Linux y Windows.
