Jornalismo. Conflito. Democracia. Abstract A significant amount of books published by Brazilian reporters describes journalistic practices related to coverage of conflicts. Such accounts present a singular expression since they are transferred from periodical journalism to book, where what is said does not cease being journalistic, but acquires another density, between what circulates in newspapers and journalism studies. These "books by reporters", as they are nominated here, offer a type of account that occupies itself of journalism, so that it can elaborate another account, unveiling, criticizing or interpreting certain processes and practices. The books that compose the corpus of this analysis offer a sample of events where its occurrence imposed a struggle with censorship or the restriction of access to information, being examined here in its potential contribution to knowledge about practices, as well as to the relation between journalism and democracy.
ABSTRACTWhen going towards events in the world, Journalism reveals modes of organizing space, principles of doing, juxtaposed with the institutional, discursive and production structures of each medium. The article explores the movements of the Latin American newspapers O Estado de S. Paulo (Brazil), El Tiempo (Colombia) and El Comercio (Ecuador) vis-à-vis the Angostura event and sketches flowcharts of the three newspapers' coverage.
