Introducción: la satisfacción de los pacientes con los servicios de salud recibidos, es un elemento fundamental en la medición de la calidad de la atención. Objetivo:describir la satisfacción de los pacientes respecto a la atención odontológica, en las clínicas del adulto de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia Sede Medellín, Envigado. Métodos: estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal. Se calculó una muestra representativa de 188 pacientes. Previo consentimiento informado [estudio sin riesgo según la resolución 8430 de 1993 (Colombia), se encuestaron aleatoriamente los pacientes, quienes consultaron en la facultad de odontología de la Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, sede Envigado. Para el procesamiento de los datos se utilizó el programa estadístico SPSS versión 21.0. Se realizó un análisis univariado. Resultados:de los 188 pacientes, 68,1% (128) fueron mujeres, la edad promedio fue de 34,04 ± 9,71 [20-76] años. El 68% asiste a la consulta por tratamiento de prótesis fija, 16,5% prótesis removible, 14,4% prótesis total y 1,1% blanqueamiento dental. El 100% de la población atendida informa que recibió un buen trato por parte del estudiante, docente y auxiliar de clínica. El 100% (188) de los pacientes consideró que fue solucionado su motivo de consulta. El 95,7% de los pacientes volvería a consultar y el 99% recomendaría el servicio de odontología. La opinión de los pacientes respecto a las instalaciones físicas fue buena en general para la higiene e iluminación 97%, orden 96% y ventilación 83%. La privacidad fue el único factor evaluado como malo (3,2%). Conclusiones: los pacientes atendidos en la clínica integral del adulto quedaron satisfechos con la atención recibida y su motivo de consulta fue resuelto, consultaron principalmente por tratamiento de prótesis fija y parcial removible, la mayoría regresaría, recomendaría el servicio a otras personas y tienen una opinión excelente respecto a las relaciones interpersonales y buena en general en cuanto a la planta física, excepto por la privacidad.
Objetivo: Validar y aplicar una escala de conocimientos y prácticas en higienización de las manos en estudiantes de odontología. Metodología: Estudio longitudinal de validación y aplicación de una escala e intervención educativa en una población de 39 estudiantes de Odontología. Se empleó una fuente de información primaria que consiste en una escala de conocimientos y prácticas; la fiabilidad se evaluó con el coeficiente de alfa de Cronbach; la consistencia interna y la validez discriminante con coeficientes de correlación de Pearson y la validez de contenido y constructo mediante el análisis factorial exploratorio de componentes principales. La efectividad de la intervención educativa respecto a los conocimientos y prácticas se evalúo con un análisis bivariado. Resultados: El porcentaje de éxito en la consistencia interna fue de 77,2 % para los ítems de conocimientos y 72,7 % para los de prácticas; la validez discriminante fue del 100 % para ambos dominios; para la validez de contenido y constructo, el porcentaje de éxito fue del 100 %; en la fiabilidad se obtuvieron alfa de Cronbach iguales a 0,7. Los puntajes en los dominios de conocimientos y prácticas fueron significativamente mejores después de la intervención educativa. Conclusiones: Se halló una excelente confiabilidad y validez en la escala construida, lo que representa la disponibilidad de un instrumento para la evaluación de los conocimientos y prácticas en higienización de las manos en profesionales de la salud y la orientación de procesos de información, comunicación y educación.

Objetivo: describir los conocimientos y tratamientos utilizados por estudiantes adolescentes de una institución educativa pública en Medellín acerca del herpes labial durante el 2012. Materiales y métodos: estudio observacional, descriptivo. Participaron 133 estudiantes de una institución educativa pública en Medellín mediante un muestreo probabilístico y con selección aleatoria, en el cual se aplicó una prueba de conocimientos y tratamientos sobre herpes labial. Se hizo un análisis estadístico descriptivo univariado. Estudio de riesgo mínimo según Resolución 8430 de 1993 de la Republica de Colombia. Resultados: la edad promedio fue de 16 años, con una desviación estándar de 1,14, con un mínimo de 14 y un máximo de 23 años. El 50,4% fueron mujeres, solo el 6% conoce del herpes labial por fuentes médicas, el 38,3% desconoce el agente causal, el 65,4% conoce los medios de transmisión y el 76,7% lo reconoce visualmente. El 45,9% tenía dudas sobre los signos y síntomas, el 60,2% no conoce ningún tratamiento farmacológico, pero refiere conocer el uso de tratamientos no farmacológicos como vaselina, manteca de cacao, químicos, cigarrillo, limón, tomate y sal. Conclusiones: se detectaron falencias en el conocimiento del herpes labial, su etiología y tratamiento. La fuente principal de conocimiento fue la familia.
