The series will be cont, inued. Cat,ches of cephalopoda have been steadily inrreasing worldwide, in the period from 1975 t,o 1981 from 1.18 millions metric tons t o 1.30 millions, most of these (more than 50 O/,J by Japanese vessels throughout the world. Species of a11 groups of cephalopods were caught above all neritic and oceanic squids (about 70 "/n). Of t)lie living nearly 750 species the catalogue includes 173 species of artual or potential fishery importance. These are illustrated and described with biologica.1 dates, informations a.bout dist, ribntion areas, measurements, remarks of fishery intereste. A comprehensive andillustrated key leads t o the order and all 43 families of cephalopods, 21 with economic important species. General remarks on ccphalopods, a glossary of technical terms, lislh of species by major fishing areas and indices of scientific and internat, ional FA0 names complete this nstructive catalogur, which is a well-made review ab,out the commercial value of the rephalopod species as a part of t h e so-called unconventional marine resources.
