ABSTRACTThe urban forests may be seen as a result of land use and occupation that disintegrate and isolate the native vegetation in small areas in urban centers. The historical process analysis of the urban forests preservation actions, creation and management allow comprehension, reinforcement and recognition of the importance of these areas. This research considers different ways of conservation processes and strategies, in some of these forests, aiming to understand how the very particular history of the Relevant Ecological Interest Area Mata de Santa Genebra, in Campinas (SP), can be used as a model of preservation to similar areas.
