Os pinos dentários são utilizados na odontologia com o propósito de repor a estrutura dental perdida. A tarefa de selecionar o melhor tipo de pino para um dente com ampla destruição coronária, tratado endodonticamente, pode ser um exercício complexo e impreciso para o cirurgião-dentista. Visto que, o pino ideal deve atender aos requisitos biológicos, mecânicos e também estéticos. Desse modo, o objetivo desta revisão de literatura, foi fazer uma comparação entre os pinos metálicos fundidos e os pinos de fibra de vidro. Diante das informações coletadas e analisadas, foi possível concluir que se existir pelo menos 2 mm de estrutura coronária remanescente, qualquer sistema de pinos poderá apresentar bons resultados clínicos. Por isso, o cirurgião-dentista deve analisar e planejar individualmente cada caso, e saber selecionar o pino mais indicado para poder oferecer o melhor tratamento para o paciente.
Os implantes têm sido utilizados como umas importantes opções de tratamento, e da mesma maneira, os implantes dentários curtos podem ser uma alternativa para pacientes com restrições médicas, psicológicas ou financeiras que impossibilitam procedimentos de enxerto ósseo, por exemplo, que se faz necessário em alguns casos. Nesse sentido, o objetivo geral desta revisão de literatura foi analisar o que os diferentes autores mencionam quanto a aspectos específicos dos implantes curtos, como tamanho, sobrevida e influência da proporção da coroa sobre os implantes curtos. Os objetivos específicos foram descrever o que trata a literatura científica sobre tamanho dos implantes curtos; comparar o que tratam os autores sobre a sobrevida e a longevidade dos implantes curtos; discutir os resultados das pesquisas avaliando a influência da proporção da coroa sobre os implantes curtos. Os resultados apontaram altas taxas de sobrevida dos implantes curtos, que medem entre 4 e 10 mm, sem influência significativa da proporção coroa-implante na sobrevivência desses implantes.
