colección de epigramas y romances del «coplero» gaditano Francisco Nieto de Molina. Epígono muy tardío de los maestros del Barroco, sobresalió durante la segunda mitad del siglo xviii por su condición de ingenio conceptista, mitológico, épico-burlesco y epigramático, además de sumarse a la polémica sobre el «Prólogo» de Blas Nasarre a las Comedias y entremeses (1749) de Cervantes. Se privilegia aquí el estudio del género del «papel» durante la Ilustración y los modelos en los cuales se inspiró para componer dicho opúsculo: las Rimas humanas (1609) de Lope de Vega, Góngora y el romancero nuevo.
En este trabajo se indaga sobre el texto autobiográfico titulado «Apuntaciones que un curioso pidió a don Tomás de Iriarte acerca de su vida y estudios» con el fin de aclarar el propósito de su escritura. Esta se fecha, según el único testimonio conservado, el 30 de junio de 1780. No se sabe más acerca de las condiciones de composición, pero se ha descubierto que fue utilizado como fuente de información para la elaboración de noticias biográficas tras la muerte del autor. Aquí se demuestra que tuvo un uso mucho más inmediato y provechoso con base en los estudios teóricos sobre el género, el análisis del propio texto y el contraste con las semblanzas biográficas publicadas en los años siguientes.
