Advances in synthetic biology and nanotechnology resulted in tools that can be used to control, reuse, modify, and re-engineer cells' structure, as well as enabling engineers to effectively use biological cells as programmable substrates to realize Bio-NanoThings (biological embedded computing devices). Bio-NanoThings are tiny, non-intrusive, and concealable devices that can be used for in-vivo applications such as intra-body sensing and actuation networks, where the use of artificial devices can be detrimental. Bio-NanoThings are nano-scale devices used in various healthcare settings such as continuous health monitoring, targeted drug delivery, and nanosurgeries. These services can also be grouped to form a collaborative network called nanonetwork, whose performance can potentially be improved when connected to higher bandwidth external networks such as the Internet. However, to realize the IoBNT paradigm, it is also important to seamlessly connect the biological environment with the technological landscape, for example by having a dynamic interface designing to convert biochemical signals from the human body into an equivalent electromagnetic signal (and vice versa). However, this also risks the exposure of internal biological mechanisms to cyber-based sensing and medical actuation, with potential security and privacy implications. In this paper, we comprehensively review bio-cyber interface for IoBNT architecture, focusing on bio-cyber interfacing options for IoBNT like biologically inspired bio-electronic devices, RFID enabled implantable chips, and electronic tattoos. A directional point‐to‐point growth of microwires of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) self‐organized on Aspergillus niger (A. niger) templates by utilizing positive phototropic fungal response to different spectral ranges of visible light is reported. A. niger serves as a living template for the self‐organization of monosodium glutamate (MSG) capped gold colloids under controlled nutrient trigger and appropriate light, temperature, and humidity conditions. The experimental results show that control of these parameters eliminates the need for any microchannels for the directional growth of microwires. The growth rate of fungal hyphae increases exponentially under light illumination compared to its growth in the dark under similar conditions. White light is found to be most suitable to trigger the directional growth. Gold microwires of about 1 to 2 μm diameter and length exceeding 1 mm are grown within a week with a maximum divergence of 40–50° from the light path regardless of the wavelength of the light irradiation. Phototropic response of fungi has been investigated intensively over the last three decades, but this is the first report on the collective use of microbial tropism and directed biomimetic self‐organization of metallic nanoparticles on living organisms.

Monodispersed and transparent hybrid silica wires were synthesized by the sol–gel method using the chemical surfactant trimethoxyoctylsilane (C 8 TMOS or C 11 H 26 O 3 Si) and, for the first time, by green surfactants ( Nelumbo nucifera /lotus leaf extract). The purpose was to introduce a less toxic, cost-effective, and one-step easy approach to get superhydrophobic silica films. Each of the surfactants was used at two different concentrations to investigate hydrophobicity of the films. Assembly of silica wires was obtained by dip-coating and vacuum filtration methods on glass and cellulose acetate filter paper as substrates, respectively. The water contact angle (CA) up to 154° was measured for hybrid silica films on filter paper, which revealed their superhydrophobicity as compared to hydrophobic behavior of those films coated on a glass substrate with CA up to 135°. Chemical, optical, and structural properties of prepared films were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV–vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. The hybrid silica wires prepared displayed good transparency, low surface energy, and superhydrophobicity. These silica assemblies can create outstanding and multifunctional structures with superhydrophobic coatings for waterproof electronic devices, military uniforms, self-cleaning surfaces, etc.

The internet of things is used as a demonstrative keyword for evolution of the internet and physical realms, by means of pervasive distributed commodities with embedded identification, sensing, and actuation abilities. Imminent intellectual technologies are subsidizing internet of things for information transmission within physical and autonomous digital entities to provide amended services, leading towards a new communication era. Substantial amounts of heterogeneous hardware devices, e.g., radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, sensors, and various network protocols are exploited to support object identification and network communication. Data generated by these digital objects is termed as “Big Data” and incorporates high dimensional space with noisy, irrelevant, and redundant features. Direct execution of mining techniques onto such kind of high dimensionality attribute space can increase cost and complexity. Data analytic mechanisms are embedded into internet of things to permit intelligent decision-making capabilities. These notions have raised new challenges regarding internet of things from a data and algorithm perspective. The proposed study identifies the problem in the internet of things network and proposes a novel cuckoo search-based outdoor data management. The technique of the feature extraction is used for the extraction of expedient information from raw and high-dimensional data. After the implementation for the cuckoo search-based feature extraction, few test benchmarks are introduced to evaluate the performance of mutated cuckoo search algorithms. The consequential low-dimensional data optimizes classification accuracy along with reduced complexity and cost.

The highly luminescent CdSe/CdS/ZnS core–multi-shell quantum dots (QDs) were prepared without a protective atmosphere through the precursor injection method (phosphine free) in paraffin liquid and oleic acid. Polymers (PEG, PVA, PVP, and PAA) were coated to CdSe/CdS/ZnS core–multi-shell quantum dots to increase stability. However, core–multi-shell structured QDs reveal enhanced emission in the range 355–410 nm by suppressing the defect sensitive cores and nonradioactive recombination in PL spectra. The cubic zinc blended quantum dots with crystallite size in the range 22–44 nm, as confirmed by XRD, were obtained. The resultant absorption spectra of all the samples showed that the samples were absorbent in the UV region over the 302–380 nm range. In the FT-IR spectrum 712, 731, and 400–700 cm–1 band values were assigned to CdSe, CdS, and ZnS band stretching, respectively. Images of CdSe, CdSe/CdS, and CdSe/CdS/ZnS quantum dots obtained from the SEM were spherical whereas QDs capped with different polymers (PEG, PVA, PVP, and PAA) showed nanofibers that were linear and homogeneous size ranged between 12 and 38 nm. These as prepared QDs were placed under visible light for 48 h. After absorbing UV light, the range of UV–vis intensity was enhanced until 389–464 nm and emission intensity enhanced until 492–509 nm, which was confirmed by UV and PL spectra. CdSe/CdS/ZnS QDs with organic ligands revealed antibacterial activity over a broad range against Klebsiella Pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
