Kopf-Cycloaddition begiinstigt, hat eine hohere Quantenausbeute (0.71) als 14, n = 3 (0.46).2) Diene rnit viergliedriger Kette zeigen die gleiche Regioselektivitat wie Diene mit n = 3. Die Quantenausbeuten sind generell niedriger als fur n = 3 und spiegeln auch hier die Polarisierung der Doppelbindungen wider [@(14, n = 4) < @(19, n = 4)].3) Die Regioselektivitgt ist fur n = 2 sehr stark von der Polarisierung der Enoletherdoppelbindung abhingig. Bei 14, n = 2, begiinstigt diese die Kopf-Schwanz-[2 + 21-Cycloaddition, und es entstehen nur Tricyclo[5.2.1 .0'.6]decane. Allerdings ist die Quantenausbeute (0.30) niedriger als bei 14, n = 3 (0.46), obwohl dort Kettenliinge und Enolether-Polarisierung entgegengesetzt wirken. Dreht man die Polarisierung um (17, n = 2,19, n = 2), dann geht die Quantenausbeute fur die Kopf-Schwanz-[2 + 21-Cycloaddition gegen Null. 0 0 Schema 4Diese Ergebnisse bestatigen die Hypothese, da13 in der through-bond-Wechselwirkung eine der Hauptursachen fur die ,,rule of five" zu suchen ist. Das Fehlen eines elektronischen Beitrags zur Aktivierungsenergie fur den C,-Ubergangszustand bei Ketten mit n = 3,4 erklart die Regioselektivitat der Cycloaddition der entsprechenden Verbindungen[6]; slmtliche Polarisierungseffekte der Substituenten werden uberspielt. Bei Verbindungen mit n = 2, deren C,und C,-Ubergangszustand eine elektronische Aktivierungsenergie erfahrenL6], ist dagegen die Polarisierung der Vinyletherdoppelbindung fur die Regiochemie ausschlaggebend.Die fur n = 2 im Vergleich zu n = 3,4 erhohte Aktivierungsenergie laljt sich auch aus den r,,-Werten ablesen: Wahrend 7RT fur 19, n = 4, und 14, n = 4,3 rnit abnehmender Kettenlange kleiner wird, wie man dies fur einen diffusionskontrollierten Prozelj envartet, scheint bei 14, n = 2, eine hohere Aktivierungsenergie den Vorteil der kurzen Kette zu iiberspielen und die Triplettlebensdauer zu verlangern.Abweichungen von der ,,rule of five" lassen sich zwanglos mit der Polarisierung der beiden Doppelbindungssysteme erklaren; dagegen bleiben Fragen offen, wenn man nicht einen Exciplex annimmt f1 ' I, sondern die Stabilitat moglicher Diradikale heranzieht" ' 3 14] . D' ie Stereochemie der Produkte laDt darauf schlieDen, daD solche Diradikale bevorzugt gebildet werden, bei denen sich eines der Radikalzentren an dem rnit der Alkoxygruppe substituierten Kohlenstoffatom befindet. Eine Bevorzugung fur C-1 oder C-2 [vgl. Schema 41 als zweites radikalisches Kohlenstoffatom scheint es nicht zu geben. Aufgrund dieser Uberlegungen stellt sich dann z. B. die Frage, warum aus 17, n = 2, ausschlieljlich das Folgeprodukt des Sechsringradikals 20 entsteht, obwohl doch das Funfringdiradikal21 stabiler sein sollte.
