A ocupação inadequada do solo resulta em sérios danos ambientais para a população, como inundações e escorregamentos de terra, além de causar prejuízos sociais e econômicos. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar as áreas com risco de inundações urbanas e escorregamentos em três bairros do município de Jundiaí/SP, com intuito de contribuir com a discussão sobre as ações já implementadas, além de recomendações que sirvam como ponto de partida para futuras formulações de políticas públicas. Os bairros estudados foram Jd. Tamoio, Jd. das Tulipas e Jd. São Camilo. A metodologia adotada envolveu a contextualização e reconhecimento das áreas, identificação de risco; setorização/zoneamento/mapeamento; visitas de campo e propostas de intervenções. As ocupações irregulares estão entre as condicionantes antrópicas mais expressivas na deflagração do risco. Intervenções importantes já foram realizadas pela Defesa Civil do Município - instalação da escada hidráulica, piscinões e sistema de alerta, resultando em melhorias significativas. Entretanto, a quantidade de famílias, a abrangência dos bairros e as condições das ocupações trazem a complexidade e a necessidade de mais intervenções. Por fim, propõe-se como medidas essenciais: educação e conscientização da população local para os riscos de dispensa de lixo e entulho em locais inadequados, bem como para procedimentos em situações de perigo; ação de retirada de entulho e lixo e de programa de manutenção de limpeza; construção de canaletas que direcionem a água pluvial para a escada hidráulica e a ampliação ou construção de nova escada; ampliação e manutenção da rede de esgoto; remanejamento das famílias com moradias em área de risco 4, com posterior demolição das instalações e remoção de entulhos, além de recomposição vegetal da área para proteção do solo a amenização do grau de risco destas áreas e, finalmente, a instalação de um sistema sonoro de alerta para quando houver perigo de escorregamento e inundações.
