RESUMENLa Televisión Digital Interactiva (TDi) es considerada como la convergencia de la televisión y las tecnologías de la computación. La evaluación de usabilidad para aplicaciones basadas en tecnologías emergentes trae nuevos retos. La principal característica de la TDi es que los usuarios pueden interactuar con las aplicaciones; de esta manera la usabilidad es el principal aspecto a considerar cuando se diseñan aplicaciones de TDi. Las investigaciones actuales normalmente están enfocadas sobre las aplicaciones de TDi desde un punto de vista técnico, y no desde un enfoque centrado en el usuario. Hay una necesidad de nuevos métodos de evaluación de usabilidad o, por lo menos, utilizar de nuevas formas los métodos de evaluación existentes. Un conjunto de heurísticas de usabilidad específicas ha sido definido y validado, con el objetivo de ayudar en la evaluación de usabilidad de aplicaciones de TDi. También se ha propuesto una lista de verificación para ser usada al momento de aplicar las heurísticas de usabilidad.Palabras clave: Televisión digital interactiva, aplicaciones, usabilidad, heurísticas, lista de verificación. ABSTRACT Interactive Digital Television (iDT) is considered as the convergence of television and computer technologies. Usability evaluation for applications based on emerging information technology brings new challenges.The main iDT feature is that the user may interact with the application; therefore usability should be a main concern when designing iDT applications. Current research usually focuses on iDT applications from a technical point of view, rather than a user-centered approach. There is a need for new usability evaluation methods or at least for the use of traditional evaluations in novel ways. A set of specific usability heuristics was defined and validated, in order to help the usability evaluations of iDT applications. A usability checklist to be used when applying iDT heuristics is also proposed.
Usability is a fundamental quality characteristic for the success of an interactive system. It is a concept that includes a set of metrics and methods in order to obtain easy-to-learn and easy-to-use systems. Usability Evaluation Methods, UEM, are quite diverse; their application depends on variables such as costs, time availability, and human resources. A large number of UEM can be employed to assess interactive software systems, but questions arise when deciding which method and/or combination of methods gives more (relevant) information. We proposeCollaborative Usability Evaluation Methods, CUEM, following the principles defined by the Collaboration Engineering. This paper analyzes a set of CUEM conducted on different interactive software systems. It proposes combinations of CUEM that provide more complete and comprehensive information about the usability of interactive software systems than those evaluation methods conducted independently.
The education of people with disabilities requires special attention and the use of teaching and learning strategies that can be adapted to every particular disability. This study focuses on the education of deaf children as part of a larger project that aims to mix teaching strategies like Logogenia and Fitzgerald Key with interactive storytelling and collaborative learning to support literacy teaching to these children. Since deaf people learn using the visual channel as main input, we believe that technology could play a key role in the development of such environments where user interfaces should be specifically designed to attract children's attention. * We conducted a systematic literature review in order to find what researchers have done to apply Collaborative or Cooperative Learning in the education of deaf children and also what kind of emerging technologies are used to enhance collaborative environments. A total of 229 studies were found in 7 different databases. The results of this study show that Collaborative Learning has been used along with different kinds of technology in the education of deaf people with positive outcomes like improving skills in sign language, literacy and communication.
Methodologies for the development of interactive multimedia systems traditionally apply the practices and lifecycles of user-centred design in conjunction with usability and accessibility practices guided by software engineering process models. This work contributes to the conception of multimedia systems through a new way of working using a set of work routes encouraging collaborative work. This new approach to conceive multimedia systems is centred on value creation and value-sensitive design, through a formal characterisation based on theoretical foundations. The results obtained from an evaluation of this definition, using a case study in an academic context, show that our scheme facilitates the conception and planning of factors such as the interactive multimedia experience and the responsible design of the solution.
