Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is alongside electrical defibrillation the most crucial countermeasure for sudden cardiac arrest, which affects thousands of individuals every year. In this paper, we present a novel approach including sinusoid models that use skeletal motion data from an RGB-D (Kinect) sensor and the Differential Evolution (DE) optimization algorithm to dynamically fit sinusoidal curves to derive frequency and depth parameters for cardiopulmonary resuscitation training. It is intended to be part of a robust and easy-to-use feedback system for CPR training, allowing its use for unsupervised training. The accuracy of this DE-based approach is evaluated in comparison with data of 28 participants recorded by a state-of-the-art training mannequin. We optimized the DE algorithm hyperparameters and showed that with these optimized parameters the frequency of the CPR is recognized with a median error of ±2.9 compressions per minute compared to the reference training mannequin.
This paper proposes a method for calculating a health indicator (HI) for low-speed axial rolling element bearing (REB) health assessment by utilizing the latent representation obtained by variational inference using Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), trained on each speed reference in the dataset. Further, versatility is added by conditioning on the speed, extending the VAE to a conditional VAE (CVAE), thereby incorporating all speeds in a single model. Within the framework, the coefficients of autoregressive (AR) models are used as features. The dimensionality reduction inherent in the proposed method lowers the need of expert knowledge to design good condition indicators. Moreover, the suggested methodology allows for setting the probability of false alarms when encoding new data points to the latent variable space using the trained model. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated based on two different datasets: from a workshop test of an offshore drilling machine and from an in-house test rig for axial bearings. In both datasets, the HI is exceeding the warning and alarm levels with a probability of false alarm (PFA) of 10 −6 , and the method is most effective at lower shaft speeds. Directional control valves play a large role in most hydraulic systems. When modeling the hydraulic systems, it is important that both the steady state and dynamic characteristics of the valves are modeled correctly to reproduce the dynamic characteristics of the entire system. In this paper, a proportional valve (Brevini HPV 41) is investigated to identify its dynamic and steady state characteristics. The steady state characteristics are identified by experimental flow curves. The dynamics are determined through frequency response analysis and identified using several transfer functions. The paper also presents a simulation model of the valve describing both steady state and dynamic characteristics. The simulation results are verified through several experiments.
In this paper mathematical modeling of a vehicle crash test based on a single-mass is studied. The model under consideration consists of a single-mass coupled with a spring and/or a damper. The parameters for the spring and damper are obtained by analyzing the measured acceleration in the center of gravity of the vehicle during a crash. A model with a nonlinear spring and damper is also proposed and the parameters will be optimized with different damper and spring characteristics and optimization algorithms. The optimization algorithms used are interior-point and firefly algorithm. The objective of this paper is to compare different methods used to establish a simple model of a car crash and validate the results against real crash data.
