This paper presents an application of the Hilbert-Huang transform and the traveling wave theory for fault location in transmission lines, using data from two terminals, for a test system with a 200 km long transmission line between two voltage sources. The MATLAB/Simulink ® software was used to simulate different fault conditions and analyze the voltage signals, through the programmed algorithm, to estimate the fault location. The numerical and graphical results obtained proved the efficiency and high precision in locating the fault for the methodology used, when compared to the techniques found in the literature, considering all types of faults, different fault occurrence locations and fault resistances.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
