En este estudio se aborda el libro de artista o libro-arte y su utilización en Arteterapia. Primero, se realiza un breve recorrido por sus orígenes e historia, describiendo las aplicaciones y posibilidades que dicha herramienta tiene en las sesiones de Arteterapia efectuadas en una unidad de diálisis pediátrica. Segundo, se exponen unas pinceladas sobre qué es la insuficiencia renal, con el fin de contextualizar la aplicación de este instrumento. Tras una aproximación a la situación y a la idea de objeto transicional que plantea Winnicott (1971), se presentan y analizan dos casos de adolescentes sometidos a este tratamiento y con quienes se ha trabajado en la creación de un libro de artista. Con ello, se aportan dos evidencias de cómo esta herramienta puede aportar grandes posibilidades para la educación y la mejora de las capacidades de pacientes en unas circunstancias tan complejas como la que sufren los niños sometidos a tratamiento de diálisis. El libro de artista puede ser un apoyo en los momentos más duros, facilitar las relaciones entre los pacientes y convertirse en un punto de encuentro y descubrimiento emocional que puede acompañarlos dentro y fuera de la unidad de diálisis.
