<p><strong><em>Resumen</em></strong></p><p><strong>Objetivo: </strong>identificar las complicaciones clínicas maternas asociadas al embarazo en adolescentes. <strong>Material y métodos: </strong>investigación documental a través de un estudio descriptivo, longitudinal y retrospectivo que se realizó entre marzo y septiembre de 2011. Se efectuó una búsqueda exhaustiva de fuentes documentales. Criterios de inclusión: artículos publicados en revistas científicas, tanto originales como artículos de revisión y documentos de posición política en materia de salud. Bases de datos: <em>PubMed, Science Direct, y MDConsult</em>. <strong>Resultados: </strong>la mayor parte de los 17 artículos consultados consideraron como complicaciones clínicas más comunes: anemia, parto pretérmino, parto instrumental, desgarros del canal vaginal, infecciones durante el embarazo, y muerte materna. <strong>Conclusiones:</strong> es necesario enfatizar el cuidado médico de los adolescentes debido a la falta de conocimiento sobre la salud reproductiva. Es el médico familiar quien debe iniciar acciones preventivas desde una atención integral a niños y adolescentes, procurando una eficaz educación en valores, fortalecimiento de la autonomía, autoestima, toma correcta de decisiones y construcción de un proyecto de vida.</p>
