L'article se propose, en premier lieu, de présenter les contributions du numéro de Pratiques et de rendre compte et d'interroger le concept de transposition didactique. En second lieu, il mesure la pertinence de ce concept pour l'enseignement du français et réfléchit sur la spécificité et sur l'évolution historique de cette discipline.
Il s'agit d'une étude historique portant sur les transformations qu'a connues, au niveau du lycée, l'écriture d'invention depuis l'enseignement de la rhétorique à nos jours. On peut périodiser l'ensemble en trois époques : – de l'enseignement de la rhétorique à l'enseignement de la littérature (1880-1925) ; – de l'enseignement de la littérature à l'enseignement du français (1925-1970) ; – variations autour de l'enseignement du français (1970-2000). Il ressort de l'étude que l'écriture d'invention a toujours été présente dans l'enseignement des lettres au niveau des lycées mais selon des appellations, des enjeux, des contenus et des formes qui ont évolué.
S'appuyant sur l'exemple des manuels de la collection Maîtrise de l'écrit, l'article interroge la pertinence du concept de transposition didactique pour l'enseignement du français, et plus particulièrement pour l'enseignement / apprentissage de récriture au collège. Il apparaît que la confection de ces manuels a nécessité de nombreuses transpositions didactiques en référence à une pluralité de savoirs théoriques.
